A 2-story California Beach Home Move in Manhattan Beach

In April, we did a move in the Sand Section area. When we reached the pickup point at Third St, there wasn't room in the driveway for the truck, so we staged our 26-foot truck at the curb, in the window the client had reserved.

The client reserved the required parking window. She was moving to a new home closer to the ocean. She just needed to move all her belongings there. Our main task was to transport them. Considering the size of the furniture and the stairs at the pickup location, I decided to take two more movers with me, Dima and Kostya.

The Move at a Glance

  • Pickup: Third St, Sand Section, Manhattan Beach
  • Destination: Manhattan Avenue, Manhattan Beach
  • Property type: A two-story California Beach home
  • Crew: Three-mover crew
  • Inventory: 2 mattresses, a wooden dresser, 5 household boxes, a narrow cabinet, a sofa, 2 sofa cushions, a coffee table, 2 fishing armchairs, a narrow mirror.

Pickup at Third St, Sand Section

Since parking access and sweeping schedules vary from street to street in Manhattan Beach, the client had to take care of legal parking and the permit. She informed us well in advance, and we agreed to come to the pickup early in the morning.

We decided to start the process with 5 household boxes that were waiting for us at the entrance. The client used her own boxes, so we just had to carefully carry them outside by hand. Then there were 2 large mattresses that, together with Dima, we wrapped with our moving blankets and stretch wrap (the latter was charged separately). Right from the bedroom upstairs, we carried the items downstairs and to the truck.

Then the client pointed to the wooden dresser. We packed it with our moving blankets and added stretch wrap on top, which was billed as an additional charge. Dima and Kostya carried the dresser down the stairs to the truck while I began to take care of the sofa in the living room. Carrying it was a tough task, so we decided to disassemble it first. Next, we protected its parts using materials provided by the client, loaded them on the dolly, and moved it outside.

2 sofa cushions went next. Both were wrapped in our moving blankets. I placed them beside the dresser in the truck. The client showed us an old mirror that she had wrapped herself before the crew arrived. We had to be extra careful to carry it and secure it in a stable position in the vehicle.

There was a small coffee table in the living room that Kostya carried on a moving dolly outside the house. Together with Dima, we went upstairs back to the bedroom to take care of a narrow cabinet. It was already wrapped by the client, so we just transported it downstairs and then used a dolly to get it in the truck.

There were just two fishing armchairs left. Both items were also protected with our moving blankets to prevent scratches and damage. All things were ready for the move.

Drop-off at Manhattan Avenue, Manhattan Beach

We moved to Manhattan Avenue. It was quite narrow and lined with parked cars. But we parked legally in the spot that our client had arranged down the block before we arrived. We saw the two-story Mediterranean-influenced coastal home. First, I quickly carried the two fishing armchairs to the entrance, while Dima and Kostya unloaded the narrow cabinet. Then we took the fragile mirror and carried it to the bedroom on the second floor. The client asked us to unpack it. She checked it and confirmed it was safe and undamaged.

The parts of the sofa, together with the cushions, were moved to the living room by me and Kostya. We unpacked it and assembled it. The dresser was also left in the living room, based on the client’s request. Dima carried the coffee table to the living room and removed its protective wrapping.

2 mattresses went to the bedroom. The client asked us to leave them wrapped until the new bed arrives. The 5 household boxes were then delivered to the kitchen, bedroom, living room, and bathroom. When everything was done, the client was pleased.
