Adept Moving is a California-licensed moving company (license MTR0190206) that has served Malibu since 1998, rated 5.0 on Google across over 2,000 reviews. Our yard sits on Vineland Avenue in North Hollywood, and Malibu is a coastal haul of about 31 to 33 miles, so we run US-101 west to Malibu Canyon Road and drop down to Pacific Coast Highway, or take Kanan Dume Road for the western end. We've loaded out of the gated beachfront estates in Malibu Colony and Broad Beach, the bluff-top homes on Point Dume, the hillside enclaves of Serra Retreat, and the cliffside canyon streets off Rambla Pacifico and Big Rock. Our rate starts from $99/hr for a two-mover crew, cash, and regular cargo insurance is in there. The truck fee's separate, with no fuel surcharge and no hidden fees at the end. Double drive time applies and is advised on the written quote. We carry an A+ BBB rating.

    Serving Malibu from North Hollywood

Our yard sits on Vineland Avenue in North Hollywood, roughly 31 to 33 miles from Malibu. We run US-101 west to Malibu Canyon Road and drop south to Pacific Coast Highway, or take Kanan Dume Road for the western end and Topanga Canyon Boulevard for far-eastern Malibu. That covers every Malibu neighborhood: the gated beach estates of Malibu Colony and Broad Beach, the Point Dume bluffs, the Serra Retreat and canyon hillsides, and the Civic Center core around Cross Creek Road.

What we know about moving in Malibu

    Who's moving here

Most of our Malibu work ties to the coast, the canyons, and the campus. Along the beach, in Malibu Colony, Broad Beach, and the Point Dume bluffs, we move estate owners and second-home residents relocating within or out of gated communities, often with high-value art, wine, and fragile furnishings that need careful handling and gate coordination. Up in the hills and canyons, Serra Retreat, Big Rock, Rambla Pacifico, and the Malibu, Corral, and Latigo canyon roads, we handle residents whose long, narrow, substandard private roads decide the truck size and the whole approach. Around Pepperdine University, ZIP 90263, we move students, faculty, and staff to and from campus housing and nearby rentals, clustered around the academic calendar. And we help households rebuilding or relocating after wildfire, a recurring reality here since the 2018 Woolsey Fire. We handle Malibu as part of our Los Angeles moving services, running it out of North Hollywood like the rest of the coast. A lot of it is the same handful of moves: a family going from a Point Dume estate to a Serra Retreat hillside home, or a household heading east to Pacific Palisades on PCH. We do plenty of those.

How the streets shape a move

Malibu is 21 miles of coast on a single spine, and almost none of it is flat. Pacific Coast Highway runs the length of the city and carries everything, with limited curb space, no safe shoulder in most stretches, and traffic that turns heavy the moment the beach fills. Off PCH, the terrain climbs fast. The eastern canyons, Rambla Pacifico, Big Rock, and Las Flores, are narrow cliff roads with blind switchbacks, no curbs, and a landslide history. The inland canyons, Malibu Canyon, Corral, and Latigo, are long two-lane roads with steep grades and drop-offs, where a house can sit a good distance from the nearest through-road. Serra Retreat and Point Dume add gated private drives that climb and end tight. On streets like these a 26-foot truck often can't make the turn or the grade, so we stage where it's safe and carry from there. Our 18-foot box truck is the smallest we run, and it's what we send when the big one won't fit a canyon road or a private drive. Down at the gated beach communities, single guarded entrances and narrow interior lanes set where a truck can go. The truck and the plan change from one address to the next.

    Timing and access

A Malibu move goes smoother when access is sorted ahead. In the gated communities, Malibu Colony, Serra Retreat, Broad Beach, and Paradise Cove, the guard gate and security want visitor access arranged in advance, and the private lanes set where a truck can sit, so we coordinate our arrival once you line that up. Up in the canyons and on the Point Dume drives, we plan staging at the nearest safe pull-out because the roads run steep and narrow with no room to spare, and we ask you to walk the access before the day. On the highway side, PCH is the only continuous coastal route, and it backs up hard on summer weekends and beach days, while a single collision, mudslide, or fire closure can stall the whole corridor since there's no bypass. Plenty of our Malibu moves run a coastal or canyon hop: east to Pacific Palisades or Santa Monica along PCH, or inland to Calabasas and Agoura Hills up Malibu Canyon and Kanan Dume. We time the legs around the tourist crush and the canyon slowdowns to keep the drive between your two locations short, and a mid-morning start usually keeps the hourly clock honest. If the distance between your pickup and drop-off runs more than 10 miles, travel time is added before move day, and double drive time is advised on the written quote. We talk it through up front, so there's no guessing on the day.

    Why Malibu picks Adept

Licensed since 1998, with a rate that's plain to read and a crew that knows coastal and canyon access.

    5.0 with over 2,000 reviews

We hold a 5.0 on Google across over 2,000 verified reviews. That rating is the first thing we'd point a new Malibu customer to, and we've earned it one job at a time.

    From $99/hr, two movers

Our rate is $99 per hour for a two-mover crew, cash. Regular cargo insurance is included, the truck fee's separate, and there's no fuel surcharge.

    No hidden fees

What's in the written quote is what you pay. No surprise add-ons at the curb, and double drive time is advised on the quote up front.

    Licensed and insured

We're California-licensed, MTR0190206, with an A+ rating at the BBB. The paperwork's real, and we're happy to show it.

The right truck for the canyon

Our 18-foot box truck is the smallest we run, made for steep canyon roads, narrow cliff streets, and long private drives. The 26-foot is our standard for bigger loads.

    Local since 1998

We've worked out of North Hollywood since 1998, a 31-to-33-mile haul to Malibu. The gated estates, canyon roads, and bluff-top drives aren't new to us.

    What we move in Malibu

    Local Moving in Malibu

    Local Moving in Malibu

House, estate, condo, or apartment, we handle Malibu local moves from $99/hr for a two-mover crew, with regular cargo insurance included. We wrap furniture in moving blankets and bubble wrap, lay floor runners on your floors, and bring dollies and wardrobe cartons. If you've got an upright or baby grand piano, a gun safe, fine art, wine, antiques, or a home gym, tell us up front so we plan for it. Double drive time applies and is advised on the written quote.

    Commercial moves in Malibu

    Commercial moves in Malibu

We move the galleries, boutiques, restaurants, and small offices along the Pacific Coast Highway corridor and the Civic Center around Cross Creek Road. That's desks, files, display fixtures, and office equipment, worked at our hourly rate with a two-mover crew. For buildings that ask for a certificate of insurance, a standard general-liability COI is included for commercial jobs, and if you need custom additional-insured wording, we quote that separately. Limited PCH curb space and heavy seasonal traffic are the norm here, so you handle the building access rules and we coordinate the timing and sequence the load so your move lands in its window.

    Packing and unpacking in Malibu

    Packing and unpacking in Malibu

Our crew packs and unpacks at the hourly rate, and disposable packing materials and supplies are billed separately, not folded into the $99. We bring moving blankets, bubble wrap, dollies, and wardrobe cartons, and we can do a full pack or just the kitchen and the breakables while you handle the rest. Packing labor is billed at the same hourly crew time as the move, not a separate flat quote. Tell us how much you want done and we'll give you a realistic read in the written quote, so the day doesn't run long on surprises.

What to know before you move in Malibu

A few local details that keep move day smooth, from permits to canyon access.

    Permits and street rules

    Permits and street rules

Parking a moving truck in Malibu depends heavily on where the home sits. Along Pacific Coast Highway, curb space is limited, fast-moving, and often has no safe shoulder to stage a truck, so a spot right at the door can be hard to hold. The City of Malibu Public Works Department issues encroachment permits for use of the public right-of-way, and residents can get a 72-hour oversize-vehicle street-parking permit, so it's worth a call to the city to ask what applies to a moving truck on your block. Whether a moving company rather than a resident can pull that permit, and how long the city needs to process it, is something to confirm with Public Works directly, since we couldn't pin the lead time down. One thing that trips people up: PCH itself is a state highway under Caltrans jurisdiction, so anything within the PCH right-of-way falls to Caltrans, not the city. Pulling the permit and posting it is your job, not ours, but we'll tell you exactly where we need the truck so you can request the right spot.

    Gated-estate and building access

    Gated-estate and building access

Malibu's gated communities each run on their own access rules, and the gate is the first thing we plan around. Malibu Colony sits behind a single guarded entrance off PCH, with a narrow interior lane, tight setbacks, and homes packed side by side on the sand, so there's no on-street staging and little turnaround room. Serra Retreat, Broad Beach, and Paradise Cove all run guard-gate check-in too, and Paradise Cove drops down a steep gated entry road to the cove and its mobile-home park. The gate window and security clearance are yours to arrange with the association or guard ahead of time, not ours to book, and once you've set them, we coordinate our arrival to fit. Whether a given community caps move-day hours or asks for a certificate of insurance is set by the HOA, so check with yours early. If a building or association wants a COI, a standard general-liability COI is included for commercial jobs, and custom additional-insured wording is quoted separately. Tell us the gate and access rules when you ask for your quote, and we'll plan the crew start so the move fits the access window.

    Canyon and hillside access

    Canyon and hillside access

The canyons and hillsides are the hardest part of moving in Malibu, and they're where our planning matters most. Rambla Pacifico, Big Rock, and the Las Flores canyon streets in eastern Malibu are narrow, cliff-hugging, substandard roads with no shoulders, curbs, or sidewalks and blind switchbacks, on landslide-prone ground. Serra Retreat climbs steep, winding private roads with switchbacks and long gated driveways, and the central inland canyons, Malibu Canyon, Corral Canyon, and Latigo Canyon, are long two-lane roads with steep grades, drop-offs, and tight turns where the house can sit far from the nearest through-road. Point Dume adds long, steep private drives ending in tight cul-de-sacs above the ocean. On nearly all of it, a 26-foot truck can't make the grade or the turn, so we send our 18-foot box truck, the smallest we run, and stage at the nearest safe pull-out when the road or driveway won't take a truck to the door, then carry from there. On the worst eastern canyon roads, that staging point is often down on PCH. We don't run a shuttle service, and we won't promise to drive any particular grade, so a pre-move walkthrough matters here more than anywhere. Walk the access yourself before move day and tell us the carry distance, the driveway pitch, the stair runs, and whether a long truck can even turn around at the top. Flag the grade and the carry when you ask for your quote so we size the truck and crew for the hill.

Coastal and canyon homes and the carry

Coastal and canyon homes and the carry

Malibu housing runs from beachfront estates to canyon and bluff-top custom homes, and the carry changes with each. In Malibu Colony and along Broad Beach, homes sit close together on the sand with narrow frontage and tight interior lanes, so the path from truck to door is short but pinched. On Point Dume and in Serra Retreat, large custom homes sit on long private drives, with wide rooms inside but tight approaches and often long exterior stair runs from where a truck can park. Many of these homes hold high-value art, wine, and fragile furnishings that we pad-wrap in moving blankets and bubble wrap and carry slow. In an older canyon home, a wide sofa or sectional sometimes takes a careful angle, and other times we take a door off the hinges or break down a bed frame to get it clear. A mattress doesn't come apart, so we carry it flat and ease a box spring through on the diagonal. We pad the entry and any built-ins, lay floor runners on the floors, and wrap furniture before it moves. We don't pre-measure on a site visit, so it helps to tell us the doorway, driveway, and stair situation ahead of time when you ask for the quote.

    Best days and times

    Best days and times

Malibu traffic keys off Pacific Coast Highway, the one continuous route through town, which backs up hard on summer weekends, holidays, and beach days, and can gridlock completely after a collision, mudslide, or fire closure because there's no parallel bypass. The canyon roads, Malibu Canyon, Kanan Dume, and Topanga, are two-lane, slow for trucks, and can close for rockslides. Summer, Memorial Day through Labor Day, brings the peak beach crowds and the worst PCH congestion, and the Pepperdine calendar drives demand in late August for fall move-in and in May for spring move-out. Fire season runs late summer into fall, peaking with the Santa Ana winds from September into December, and much of Malibu sits in a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone with single-road egress, as the 2018 Woolsey Fire showed, so we build buffer into the schedule and keep an eye on closures. A weekday, mid-morning start after the early crush clears usually keeps the drive between your two locations short and the hourly clock honest, and gate and security coordination goes smoother midweek than on a packed Saturday. We'll talk timing through when we put your written quote together, so the start matches your access.

Max & Alex are the best movers. They showed up exactly on time and brought any supplies that you may need. They took a lot of care with all my belongings and were super helpful packing up boxes. They took apart my king bed and reassembled it perfectly. They even fixed a loose bolt leaving the bed in better condition than when they arrived. Not a scratch or a ding on anything!...

Not gonna lie after all the quotes I got I was a little skeptical with how affordable their rate was (but I was desperate to save some money haha). But they were amazing! Vladimir and Alik were my 2 men and they handled everything carefully and delicately and like they’ve been doing it forever. They’ve got it down to a science. Nothing damaged or scratched or scuffed or anything and very helpful and communicative. Will def be using them if I ever need to move here again.

After our first movers could not finish the job, I contacted Adept and they fit us in at a very busy time. Our two movers were hardworking and funny and really took care of our belongings. Their rate was much less than our first movers, who did not take great care of our things. I highly recommend Adept Movers.

A whole-home move out of a gated beachfront estate in Malibu Colony, 90265, behind the single guarded entrance off PCH. The crew cleared the guard gate and access ahead of the day, then worked a narrow interior lane and a tight lot with no room to stage on PCH. High-value art and fragile furnishings were pad-wrapped in moving blankets and bubble wrap and carried slow, and the truck size was matched to the constrained frontage. The gate window was set with the community ahead of time, so the crew arrived to it and kept the load moving. A two-mover crew, hourly, with regular cargo insurance already included.

This one was a hillside home on a narrow, no-shoulder cliff road off Rambla Pacifico in eastern Malibu, 90265, the kind of substandard switchback street a 26-foot truck can't navigate. After a pre-move walkthrough, the crew worked from the 18-foot truck and set a staging point down on PCH, relaying belongings up the tight canyon road. They wrapped furniture in moving blankets and bubble wrap, took the heavier pieces slow on the grade, and watched the blind turns. The owner had walked the access with us ahead of time, so the crew knew the carry and the pitch before they arrived. A two-mover crew, hourly, with the cargo insurance included.

The crew used a smaller truck for the driveway leg, protected the property's gate and landscaping, and planned the route in via Kanan Dume Road to dodge the worst PCH backups. They padded the furniture in moving blankets and bubble wrap and carried the long pieces down the drive with care. Malibu-specific questions

Our rate starts from $99/hr for a two-mover crew, paid in cash, with regular cargo insurance included. The truck fee is separate, and there's no fuel surcharge or hidden fees. Double drive time applies and is advised on the written quote. We put the whole estimate in writing so you know what to expect.

We don't currently offer same-day moves. A good Malibu move takes planning, the right truck for a canyon road or a gated estate, and a crew scheduled ahead, and we'd rather set it up properly than rush it. Reach out as early as you can and we'll get you a written quote and a date that works. Even a few days' notice helps us send the right truck for a Rambla Pacifico cliff street or a Malibu Colony gate window.

It depends on your block. The City of Malibu Public Works Department issues encroachment permits for the public right-of-way and a 72-hour oversize-vehicle street-parking permit, so it's worth a call to ask what applies. Keep in mind PCH itself is under Caltrans, not the city. Pulling the permit and posting it is your job, but we'll tell you where we need the truck to sit so you can request the right spot.

It depends on your load and your access. Our 26-foot truck is the standard for bigger moves. Our 18-foot box truck is the smallest we run, and it's the one we send for the steep, narrow canyon roads and long private drives in Rambla Pacifico, Big Rock, Serra Retreat, and Point Dume, and for the gated beach communities where interior lanes are tight and a 26-foot truck can't fit. Tell us your address and how much you're moving, and we'll size the truck before move day.

Yes. Our crew packs and unpacks at the hourly rate, and disposable packing materials and supplies are billed separately, not included in the $99. We bring boxes, packing paper, bubble wrap, and wardrobe cartons. We also handle specialty pieces like upright and baby grand pianos, gun safes, fine art, wine, antiques, and home gyms, so let us know up front and we'll plan the crew and equipment around them.

Yes. We're licensed by the California Bureau of Household Goods and Services, license number MTR0190206, and BBB-accredited with an A+ rating. Regular cargo insurance is included on every move at no extra charge. For commercial moves, a standard COI with general liability is included; custom additional-insured wording is quoted separately.

    General questions

It's hourly, starting at $99/hr for a two-mover crew, cash, with regular cargo insurance included. The truck fee is billed separately. Double drive time applies and is advised on the moving quote. No fuel surcharge, no hidden fees. We put the hourly rate in writing before you book, so there's nothing to guess at on the day.

A clean 5.0 on Google across more than 2,000 reviews comes down to a few habits: a clear written quote before you book, uniformed and background-checked crews, regular cargo insurance on every job, and no pressure afterward. Plenty of movers chase volume. We'd rather earn the next job by referral, and the reviews are what come out of that.

For a mid-week, mid-month date, a week's notice is usually plenty. Weekends, the end of the month, and the summer stretch from June through August fill up faster, so give it two to three weeks if you can. We don't currently offer same-day moves, so it's worth getting on the calendar early either way.

Life happens. Reach out as early as you can and we'll work with you to find the next open slot that fits. The sooner you let us know, the easier it is to move the crew around.
