Adept Moving is a California-licensed moving company (license MTR0190206) that has served Manhattan Beach since 1998, rated 5.0 on Google across over 2,000 reviews. Our yard sits on Vineland Avenue in North Hollywood, and Manhattan Beach is a South Bay run of about 31 miles, so we take the I-405 south through the Sepulveda Pass and West LA, then head west off Rosecrans Avenue or Manhattan Beach Boulevard into the city. We've loaded out of the walk-street homes and alley garages of the Sand Section near The Strand, the steep custom houses of the Hill Section, the tree-lined blocks of the Tree Section, and the HOA townhomes of Manhattan Village. Our rate starts from $99/hr for a two-mover crew, cash, and regular cargo insurance is in there. The truck fee's separate, with no fuel surcharge and no hidden fees. Double drive time applies and is advised on the written quote. We hold an A+ BBB rating.

Serving Manhattan Beach from North Hollywood

Our yard sits on Vineland Avenue in North Hollywood, about 31 miles from Manhattan Beach. We take the I-405 south through the Sepulveda Pass and West LA, exit near Rosecrans Avenue or Manhattan Beach Boulevard, then work west on Sepulveda Boulevard, State Route 1, the surface spine that splits the city. That covers every Manhattan Beach section: the Sand Section walk streets and alleys near The Strand, the Hill Section grades, the Tree Section, East Manhattan Beach, and the townhomes of Manhattan Village.

What we know about moving in Manhattan Beach

    Who's moving here

Most of our Manhattan Beach work ties to the beach sections and the hills. In the Sand Section, along the walk streets and The Strand, we move affluent homeowners into and out of high-value beachfront and near-beach properties, where long carries and small-truck shuttling are the whole job. Up in the Hill Section, we handle move-up families and custom-home owners on steep lots with ocean views. Out in the Tree Section and East Manhattan Beach, east of Sepulveda Boulevard, families move within the Manhattan Beach Unified School District, often timed to the school calendar, on more conventional suburban streets. In Manhattan Village and Liberty Village, townhome and condo residents, downsizers and professionals, move with HOA rules and shared-driveway coordination. Commercial work comes through too, from the shops, restaurants, and small offices downtown near the pier, the North End strip in the Sand Section, and the Manhattan Village center. We handle Manhattan Beach as part of our Los Angeles moving services, running it out of North Hollywood like the rest of the South Bay. We see the same moves again and again: a family going from a Sand Section rebuild up to a Hill Section home, or a household heading south to Hermosa Beach or Redondo Beach on Sepulveda.

How the streets shape a move

Manhattan Beach isn't one kind of terrain. The Sand Section fronts the coastline and packs three-story homes onto small lots, roughly thirty by ninety feet, threaded by pedestrian-only walk streets with no vehicle access and narrow rear alleys where most garages sit. On the walk streets a truck can't reach the door at all, so we stage on the nearest vehicular street and carry down the foot-only lane. In the alleys, turning room is tight and often blocked by poles or dumpsters, so a 26-foot truck usually won't fit and we run our 18-foot box truck, the smallest we have. Southeast, the Hill Section climbs steep, curving streets with short pitched driveways where a long trailer can't maneuver. The Tree Section adds mature street trees whose canopy can limit a tall truck's clearance and curbside spotting. Downtown near the pier runs on metered on-street parking with heavy pedestrian and tourist traffic and little room to load, while East Manhattan Beach, east of Sepulveda, has the widest streets and the easiest access of the residential sections. Sepulveda Boulevard, State Route 1, splits the city north to south and ties into the I-405 just east. The truck and the parking plan change section to section.

    Timing and access

Move day in Manhattan Beach goes smoother when access is sorted ahead. In the Sand Section, we plan where the truck can legally stage before we ever load, because the walk streets and The Strand have no vehicle frontage and the alleys are narrow, and we ask you to walk the carry route ahead of time. In Manhattan Village and Liberty Village, the HOA sets move rules, guest-parking limits, and sometimes a loading or elevator window, so line those up with the association and we'll coordinate our arrival to them. Downtown near the pier, the metered on-street parking and pedestrian crowds mean we sequence the load to work inside short windows. On the roads, Sepulveda Boulevard, Rosecrans Avenue, and Aviation Boulevard carry heavy commuter traffic on weekdays, and the I-405 backs up through the Sepulveda Pass, while summer weekends jam the beach and pier. Plenty of our Manhattan Beach moves run a short South Bay hop: south to Hermosa Beach or Redondo Beach, or north to El Segundo, mostly along Sepulveda. If the distance between your pickup and drop-off runs more than 10 miles, travel time is added before move day, and double drive time is advised on the written quote. We time the legs around the beach crush and talk it through up front, so there's no guessing on the day.

    Why Manhattan Beach picks Adept

Licensed since 1998, with a rate that's plain to read and a crew that knows South Bay walk streets, alleys, and hillside grades.

    5.0 with over 2,000 reviews

We hold a 5.0 on Google across over 2,000 verified reviews. That's the first number we'd point a new Manhattan Beach customer to, and we've worked since 1998 to keep it there.

    From $99/hr, two movers

Our rate is $99 per hour for a two-mover crew, cash. Regular cargo insurance is included, the truck fee's separate, and there's no fuel surcharge.

    No hidden fees

What's in the written quote is what you pay. No surprise add-ons at the curb, and double drive time is advised on the quote up front.

    Licensed and insured

We're California-licensed, MTR0190206, with an A+ rating at the BBB. The paperwork's real, and we're happy to show it.

The right truck for a walk street

Our 18-foot box truck is the smallest we run, made for narrow alleys, walk-street carries, and steep beach blocks where a 26-foot truck won't fit. The 26-foot is our standard for bigger loads.

    Local since 1998

We've worked out of North Hollywood since 1998, about a 31-mile run to Manhattan Beach. The walk streets, alleys, and Hill Section grades aren't new to us.

What we move in Manhattan Beach

    Local Moving in Manhattan Beach

    Local Moving in Manhattan Beach

House, condo, or apartment, we handle Manhattan Beach local moves from $99/hr for a two-mover crew, with regular cargo insurance included. We wrap furniture in moving blankets and bubble wrap, lay floor runners on your floors, and bring dollies and wardrobe cartons. On the walk streets and in the alleys of the Sand Section, we bring the 18-foot truck and plan the carry ahead. If you've got an upright or baby grand piano, a gun safe, fine art, antiques, or a home gym, tell us up front so we plan for it. Double drive time applies and is advised on the written quote.

    Commercial moves in Manhattan Beach

    Commercial moves in Manhattan Beach

We move shops, restaurants, and small offices downtown near the pier, along the North End strip, and at the Manhattan Village center. That's desks, files, display fixtures, and office equipment, worked at our hourly rate with a two-mover crew. For buildings that ask for a certificate of insurance, a standard general-liability COI is included for commercial jobs, and if you need custom additional-insured wording, we quote that separately. Metered parking and heavy pedestrian traffic are the norm downtown, so you handle the building access rules and we coordinate the timing and sequence the load so your move lands in its window.

Packing and unpacking in Manhattan Beach

Packing and unpacking in Manhattan Beach

Our crew packs and unpacks at the hourly rate, and disposable packing materials and supplies are billed separately, not folded into the $99. We bring moving blankets, bubble wrap, dollies, and wardrobe cartons, and we can do a full pack or just the kitchen and the breakables while you handle the rest. Packing labor is billed at the same hourly crew time as the move, not a separate flat quote. Tell us how much you want done and we'll give you a realistic read in the written quote, so the day doesn't run long on surprises.

What to know before you move in Manhattan Beach

A few local details that keep move day smooth, from permits to walk-street and alley access.

    Permits and street rules

    Permits and street rules

On plenty of Manhattan Beach blocks, parking the truck at the curb is straightforward, but on the narrow Sand Section streets and downtown near the pier, where curb space is metered and crowded with beach traffic, a reserved space can save a long carry. The City of Manhattan Beach handles moving-van permits and temporary no-parking signs through the Community Development Department's Traffic Engineering and Parking Division, and the city requires its own temporary no-parking signs to hold curb space for a moving van, PODs, or a bin. Whether your block needs one, and the lead time to post it, is worth confirming with the city directly, since we couldn't pin the exact processing window down. There's also a separate oversized-vehicle parking permit run by Police Department Parking Enforcement, and some mapped areas restrict large vehicles, so a longer truck may need that cleared ahead. Pulling the permit and posting the signs is your job, not ours, but we'll tell you exactly where the truck needs to sit so you request the right stretch of curb. If your street is narrow or downtown, we'd give the city a call before move day.

Walk streets, alleys, and The Strand

Walk streets, alleys, and The Strand

The walk streets and The Strand are the signature challenge of moving in Manhattan Beach, and they're where our planning matters most. The Sand Section fronts the two-mile coastline, and its pedestrian-only walk streets and the beachfront Strand have no vehicle access at all, so a truck simply can't reach the front of those homes. We stage on the nearest street a truck can legally sit on and hand-carry everything down the foot-only lane and its stairs, which can be a long haul, so the carry distance drives the whole plan. Most Sand Section homes are alley-loaded too, with the garage off a narrow rear alley running parallel to the beach, and those alleys are tight on turning room and often pinched by poles, dumpsters, and parked cars, so we check the alley width and approach before the day. On a lot of these blocks a 26-foot truck can't fit the alley or the beach street, so we send our 18-foot box truck, the smallest we run, and shuttle in shorter loads when that's what the access takes. Because the carry can be long, a pre-move walkthrough matters here more than anywhere: we ask you to walk the route yourself, from where the truck can park to the door, and tell us the distance, the stairs, and whether the alley is clear, so we size the crew and the truck for the carry. Flag the walk-street or alley situation when you ask for your quote.

    Hill Section and steep-grade access

    Hill Section and steep-grade access

Southeast of the Sand Section, the Hill Section rolls over steep grades with ocean and city views, and the terrain changes how we spot the truck. The streets curve and climb, driveways run short and pitched, and the grade complicates ramp angles and dolly work, so a full-size trailer often can't maneuver the turns. On those lots we spot a smaller truck at the driveway and stage loads uphill rather than force a long truck onto a street it can't back out of. The steep streets that slope down toward the beach in the Sand Section have the same effect near the water. We don't run a shuttle service or promise to drive any particular grade, so here again a pre-move walkthrough helps: walk the driveway and the street before the day and tell us the pitch, the turnaround room, and the carry from where the truck can safely sit. When you ask for your quote, flag the grade and the driveway so we size the truck and the crew for the hill instead of finding out at the curb.

    Beach cottages and three-story rebuilds

    Beach cottages and three-story rebuilds

Manhattan Beach housing runs from original beach cottages to three-story rebuilds, and the carry changes with it. In the Sand Section, small lots, roughly thirty by ninety feet, hold tall lot-line contemporary homes with three floors of stairs, while older pockets still keep early-20th-century cottages with narrow doorways and tight staircases. The Tree Section and East Manhattan Beach mix mid-century homes with newer builds on slightly larger lots, and Manhattan Village leans to HOA townhomes and condos with shared entries. In the older cottages, a wide sofa or sectional sometimes takes a careful angle, and other times we pull a door off the hinges or break down a bed frame to clear it. A mattress doesn't come apart, so we carry it flat and ease a box spring through on the diagonal. On the three-story rebuilds, the stairs are the work, so we pad the stair runs and railings, lay floor runners on the floors, and wrap furniture in moving blankets and bubble wrap. We don't pre-measure on a site visit, so it helps to tell us the doorways, the stair count, and any oversized or built-in pieces when you ask for the quote.

    Best days and times

    Best days and times

Manhattan Beach traffic keys off the beach and the pier. Summer weekends and holidays pack the downtown and Strand blocks with visitors and eat up the metered parking, so beach-area curb staging is hardest exactly when the most people want to move, June through August. Sepulveda Boulevard, State Route 1, and Rosecrans Avenue carry heavy weekday commuter loads, and the I-405 just east of the city backs up through the Sepulveda Pass, so the drive in and out is easier off-peak. A mid-morning weekday start, after the early crush clears, usually keeps the drive between your two locations short and the hourly clock honest, and gate and HOA coordination in Manhattan Village goes smoother midweek than on a packed Saturday. Moves here peak in summer with the Manhattan Beach Unified School District calendar and lease turnover, the same stretch when beach parking is tightest, so those dates fill faster and the best availability lands mid-week and mid-month. We'll talk timing through when we put your written quote together, so the start matches your access.

Max & Alex are the best movers. They showed up exactly on time and brought any supplies that you may need. They took a lot of care with all my belongings and were super helpful packing up boxes. They took apart my king bed and reassembled it perfectly. They even fixed a loose bolt leaving the bed in better condition than when they arrived. Not a scratch or a ding on anything!...

Not gonna lie after all the quotes I got I was a little skeptical with how affordable their rate was (but I was desperate to save some money haha). But they were amazing! Vladimir and Alik were my 2 men and they handled everything carefully and delicately and like they’ve been doing it forever. They’ve got it down to a science. Nothing damaged or scratched or scuffed or anything and very helpful and communicative. Will def be using them if I ever need to move here again.

After our first movers could not finish the job, I contacted Adept and they fit us in at a very busy time. Our two movers were hardworking and funny and really took care of our belongings. Their rate was much less than our first movers, who did not take great care of our things. I highly recommend Adept Movers.

A whole-home move out of a three-story near-beach house on a pedestrian walk street in the Sand Section, 90266, with no vehicle access to the frontage. After a pre-move walkthrough, the crew staged the truck on the nearest street it could legally sit on and hand-carried furniture down the foot-only walk-street lane and its stairs, working from an 18-foot small truck and dollies for the long carry. They wrapped the furniture in moving blankets and bubble wrap, laid floor runners through the entry, and took the heavier pieces slow down the stairs. The owner had walked the carry route with us ahead of time, so the crew knew the distance and the stairs before they arrived. A two-mover crew, hourly, with regular cargo insurance already included.

    Manhattan Beach Moving FAQs

    Manhattan Beach-specific questions

Our rate starts from $99/hr for a two-mover crew, paid in cash, with regular cargo insurance included. The truck fee is separate, and there's no fuel surcharge or hidden fees. Double drive time applies and is advised on the written quote. We put the whole estimate in writing so you know what to expect.

We don't currently offer same-day moves. A good Manhattan Beach move takes planning, the right truck for a walk street or a narrow alley, and a crew scheduled ahead, so we'd rather set it up properly than rush it. Reach out as early as you can and we'll get you a written quote and a date that works. Even a few days' notice helps us send the 18-foot truck for a Sand Section carry or line up an HOA window in Manhattan Village.

On many blocks, no, but on narrow Sand Section streets and downtown near the pier, where parking is metered and tight, a reserved curb space saves a long carry. The City of Manhattan Beach issues moving-van permits and temporary no-parking signs through its Traffic Engineering and Parking Division, and a longer truck may also fall under the city's separate oversized-vehicle parking permit. Pulling the permit and posting the signs is your job, but we'll tell you where we need the truck to sit so you can request the right spot.

It depends on your load and your access. Our 26-foot truck is the standard for bigger moves. Our 18-foot box truck is the smallest we run, and it's the one we send for the walk streets, narrow rear alleys, and steep beach blocks of the Sand Section, and for the tight, curving streets of the Hill Section where a 26-foot truck can't fit or turn. Tell us your address and how much you're moving, and we'll size the truck before move day.

Yes. Our crew packs and unpacks at the hourly rate, and disposable packing materials and supplies are billed separately, not included in the $99. We bring boxes, packing paper, bubble wrap, and wardrobe cartons. We also handle specialty pieces like upright and baby grand pianos, gun safes, fine art, antiques, and home gyms, so let us know up front and we'll plan the crew and equipment around them.

Yes. We're licensed by the California Bureau of Household Goods and Services, license number MTR0190206, and BBB-accredited with an A+ rating. Regular cargo insurance is included on every move at no extra charge. For commercial moves, a standard COI with general liability is included; custom additional-insured wording is quoted separately.

    General questions

It's hourly, starting at $99/hr for a two-mover crew, cash, with regular cargo insurance included. The truck fee is billed separately. Double drive time applies and is advised on the moving quote. No fuel surcharge, no hidden fees. We put the hourly rate in writing before you book, so there's nothing to guess at on the day.

A clean 5.0 on Google across more than 2,000 reviews comes down to a few habits: a clear written quote before you book, uniformed and background-checked crews, regular cargo insurance on every job, and no pressure afterward. Plenty of movers chase volume. We'd rather earn the next job by referral, and the reviews are what come out of that.

For a mid-week, mid-month date, a week's notice is usually plenty. Weekends, the end of the month, and the summer stretch from June through August fill up faster, so give it two to three weeks if you can. We don't currently offer same-day moves, so it's worth getting on the calendar early either way.

Life happens. Reach out as early as you can and we'll work with you to find the next open slot that fits. The sooner you let us know, the easier it is to move the crew around.
