Permits and street rules

Whether the city requires a dedicated permit specifically for moving-truck curb staging, as opposed to a general encroachment permit, is worth confirming with Public Works directly, since the rules can vary and the advance-notice window wasn't something we could pin down. The city guards its street-tree canopy closely, so if low limbs or a protected parkway tree affect where the truck can pull, that's another reason to call ahead. Pulling any permit and posting it is your job, not ours, but we'll tell you exactly where we need the truck to sit so you can request the right spot. Oversize truck movement on the state routes, SR-134, I-210, and SR-110, is handled by Caltrans, separate from a city curb permit.

Estate driveways and gated access

The estate lots are the part of a San Marino move that needs the most planning. South of Huntington Drive, around the Huntington Library and Oak Knoll, homes sit far back on large parcels behind long, narrow, often gated private driveways with deep setbacks, mature specimen trees, and clipped hedges. A full-size 26-foot truck frequently can't reach the residence, and the low, protected tree canopy limits how high a truck can clear, so we stage at the street and carry in, or send our 18-foot box truck, the smallest we run, when a shorter truck can work the driveway. Mission Street and Huntington Drive access

San Marino's commercial work sits on two corridors, and both are low-rise. Along Mission Street in the northwest, the boutiques, antique shops, and dining rooms occupy narrow storefronts built to the sidewalk, with short, time-limited metered curb frontage, pedestrian traffic, and the Metro A Line running along the South Pasadena edge nearby, so a move there means working within tight metered windows and sequencing the load. Weekdays are quieter than weekends for both the estate blocks and the Mission Street corridor.
