Adept Moving has run moves in Sierra Madre since 1998, licensed in California under MTR0190206 and rated 5.0 on Google across over 2,000 reviews. We dispatch from a yard on Vineland Avenue in North Hollywood, and Sierra Madre is a foothill run roughly 20 to 25 miles east, so we take SR-134 through Glendale and Pasadena onto the I-210, then exit at Baldwin Avenue or Michillinda Avenue and head north into town. We've loaded out of the old cottages up in Sierra Madre Canyon, the Craftsman homes near the Mount Wilson Trailhead, and the storefronts around Kersting Court where Sierra Madre Boulevard meets Baldwin Avenue. Our rate starts from $99/hr for a two-mover crew, cash, and regular cargo insurance is in there. The truck fee's separate, with no fuel surcharge and no hidden fees. Double drive time applies and is advised on the moving quote. We carry an A+ BBB rating.

Serving Sierra Madre from North Hollywood

Our base sits on Vineland Avenue in North Hollywood, roughly 20 to 25 miles west of Sierra Madre. We run SR-134, the Ventura Freeway, east through Glendale and Pasadena, merge onto the I-210, the Foothill Freeway, and exit at Michillinda Avenue, Baldwin Avenue, or Sierra Madre Villa Avenue, then head north into town. That covers every Sierra Madre neighborhood: the Downtown Village around Kersting Court, the old cabins of Sierra Madre Canyon, the Craftsman streets near the Mount Wilson Trailhead, and the flatland cottages south toward the Arcadia line.

What we know about moving in Sierra Madre

    Who's moving here

The foothills and the old housing stock drive most of what we do in Sierra Madre. Up in Sierra Madre Canyon, along Woodland Drive and Carter Avenue, we move residents out of small early-1900s cottages and cabins on steep, narrow one-lane streets where the van can't reach the door and the carry is the whole job. In the north foothills near the Mount Wilson Trailhead and Skyland Drive, we handle Craftsman and custom hillside owners on sloped lots with grade and stair carries. Down in the flatland south of Sierra Madre Boulevard toward the Arcadia line, long-tenured owners sit in Craftsman bungalows and Spanish Colonial cottages on tight, deep lots. Along the Baldwin Avenue and Sierra Madre Boulevard corridors, apartment and small-multifamily renters deal with shared entries and limited parking. Commercial work comes through the downtown village too, from the shops, restaurants, and upstairs offices around Kersting Court. Sierra Madre rides along with our Los Angeles moving services, dispatched from North Hollywood alongside the rest of the foothill towns. The same jobs keep coming up: a family downsizing from a north-foothill Craftsman to a flatland cottage, or a household heading west to Pasadena on Sierra Madre Boulevard. We run those constantly.

How the streets shape a move

Sierra Madre isn't one kind of terrain, though the whole north edge tilts up into the mountain front. Sierra Madre Canyon climbs fast off Woodland Drive and Carter Avenue on very steep, narrow, winding one-lane streets with blind curves, no shoulders, and dense tree-canopy overhang that catches a tall truck. The north foothill blocks near the Mount Wilson Trailhead and Skyland Drive run steep with short, pitched driveways, and much of that mountain-adjacent area sits in a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone with tight access and little turnaround room. On streets like these a 26-foot van often can't make the turn or the grade, so we stage downhill where it's safe and carry up. Our 18-foot box truck is the smallest we run, and it's what we send when the big one won't fit a canyon lane or a foothill driveway. Down in the flatland south of the Boulevard, the Craftsman streets are older and narrow, with mature parkway trees and short driveways, so trucks usually stage at the curb rather than pull in. Downtown around Kersting Court, the village lanes carry angled curb parking, heavy pedestrian traffic, and no loading docks. The truck and the parking plan change block to block.

    Timing and access

In Sierra Madre, we sort the access before the day rather than on it. Up in the canyon and the north foothills, we plan curbside or downhill staging because the one-lane streets run steep with no room to spare, and we ask you to walk the access before the day so we know the carry distance, the driveway pitch, and the tree-canopy clearance. At the apartment corridors along Baldwin Avenue and Sierra Madre Boulevard, and at senior-care facilities like The Kensington, the building manager or front desk sets the access window, so we coordinate our arrival once you line that up. Downtown around Kersting Court, the angled curb parking and pedestrian foot traffic mean we sequence the load to work inside it. On the road side, there's no freeway inside town, so everything funnels in from the I-210 interchanges to the south, and both the I-210 and SR-134 back up through Pasadena and Glendale at commute peaks. Plenty of our Sierra Madre moves run a short foothill hop: west to Pasadena on Sierra Madre Boulevard, or south to Arcadia on Baldwin Avenue. We time the legs around the commute crush to keep the drive between your two locations short, and a mid-morning start usually keeps the hourly clock honest. Double drive time applies and is advised on the moving quote. We talk it through up front, so there's no guessing on the day.

    Why Sierra Madre picks Adept

Licensed since 1998, with a rate that's plain to read and a crew that knows foothill canyons and narrow village streets.

    5.0 with over 2,000 reviews

We hold a 5.0 on Google across over 2,000 verified reviews. That track record is the thing we're proudest of, and it's the first thing we'd point a new Sierra Madre customer to.

    From $99/hr, two movers

Our rate is $99 per hour for a two-mover crew, cash. Regular cargo insurance is included, the truck fee's separate, and there's no fuel surcharge.

    No hidden fees

What's in the written quote is what you pay. No surprise add-ons at the curb, and double drive time is advised on the quote up front.

    Licensed and insured

We're California-licensed, MTR0190206, with an A+ rating at the BBB. The paperwork's real, and we're happy to show it.

The right truck for the canyon

Our 18-foot box truck is the smallest we run, made for steep canyon lanes and narrow foothill driveways. The 26-foot is our standard for bigger loads.

    Local since 1998

We've worked out of North Hollywood since 1998, a 20-to-25-mile run to Sierra Madre. The canyon cabins, foothill Craftsmans, and the downtown village aren't new to us.

What we move in Sierra Madre

    Local Moving in Sierra Madre

    Local Moving in Sierra Madre

House, cottage, condo, or apartment, we handle Sierra Madre local moves from $99/hr for a two-mover crew, with regular cargo insurance included. We wrap furniture in moving blankets and bubble wrap, lay floor runners on your floors, and bring dollies and wardrobe cartons. If you've got an upright or baby grand piano, a gun safe, fine art, antiques, or a home gym, tell us up front so we plan for it. Double drive time applies and is advised on the moving quote.

    Commercial moves in Sierra Madre

    Commercial moves in Sierra Madre

We move the shops, restaurants, and upstairs offices around Kersting Court and along the Baldwin Avenue and Sierra Madre Boulevard corridors. That's desks, files, display fixtures, and office equipment, worked at our hourly rate with a two-mover crew. For buildings that ask for a certificate of insurance, a standard general-liability COI is included for commercial jobs, and if you need custom additional-insured wording, we quote that separately. Angled village curb parking, narrow lanes, and heavy pedestrian traffic are the norm downtown, so you handle the building access rules and we coordinate the timing and sequence the load so your move lands in its window.

Packing and unpacking in Sierra Madre

Packing and unpacking in Sierra Madre

If you want help boxing up, our crew packs and unpacks at the hourly rate, and disposable packing materials and supplies are billed separately, not folded into the $99. We bring moving blankets, bubble wrap, dollies, and wardrobe cartons, and we can do a full pack or just the kitchen and the breakables while you handle the rest. Packing labor is billed at the same hourly crew time as the move, not a separate flat quote. Tell us how much you want done and we'll give you a realistic read in the written quote, so the day doesn't run long on surprises.

What to know before you move in Sierra Madre

A few local details that keep move day smooth, from permits to canyon access.

    Permits and street rules

    Permits and street rules

On most Sierra Madre residential blocks, parking the truck at the curb is straightforward, but downtown around Kersting Court, where Sierra Madre Boulevard meets Baldwin Avenue, the angled and parallel village curb parking is tight and crowded with foot traffic, so a reserved curb space can save a long carry. The City of Sierra Madre Public Works Department, at 232 W. Sierra Madre Blvd, issues street and parkway encroachment permits for the public right-of-way, and you can reach them at (626) 355-7135 or permits@sierramadreca.gov to ask what applies to a moving truck on your block. Whether the city requires a dedicated permit for moving-truck curb staging, as opposed to a general encroachment permit, is worth confirming with Public Works directly, since the rules vary block to block and the processing window wasn't something we could pin down. Pulling the permit and posting it is your job, not ours, but we'll tell you exactly where we need the truck to sit so you can request the right spot. Oversize truck movement on the state routes, the I-210 and SR-134, is handled by Caltrans, separate from a city curb permit.

    Downtown and multifamily access

    Downtown and multifamily access

Sierra Madre building access splits between the downtown village and the apartment corridors. Around Kersting Court and along Sierra Madre Boulevard and Baldwin Avenue, the storefront shops and upstairs offices sit on narrow village lanes with angled curb parking, heavy pedestrian traffic, and no loading docks, so a downtown move usually means staging at the curb and hand-carrying to the door. Along the Baldwin Avenue and Sierra Madre Boulevard corridors, the older small apartment and mixed-use buildings tend to have limited on-site parking, shared entries, and management rules, so curb staging competes with through traffic and you'll want the building manager looped in ahead of time. Senior-care facilities like The Kensington ask for scheduled, escorted access and protected common corridors, which is yours to arrange with the front desk, not ours to book. Once you've set the access window, we coordinate our arrival to it, pad the entry, protect shared walkways and interior finishes, run the load on dollies, and keep it moving. If a building or association asks for a certificate of insurance, a standard general-liability COI is included for commercial jobs, and custom additional-insured wording is quoted separately. Tell us the building rules when you ask for your quote, and we'll plan the crew start so the move fits the window.

    Canyon and foothill access

    Canyon and foothill access

The canyon and the north foothills are the hardest part of moving in Sierra Madre, and they're where our planning matters most. Sierra Madre Canyon, along Woodland Drive and Carter Avenue, and the foothill streets near the Mount Wilson Trailhead and Skyland Drive sit on very steep, narrow, winding one-lane streets with blind curves, no shoulders, short pitched driveways, and dense tree-canopy overhang that catches a tall truck. Much of that mountain-front area is mapped in a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone with limited access and little turnaround room. On nearly all of it, a full-size 26-foot van can't make the grade or the turn, so we send our 18-foot box truck, the smallest we run, and stage it at the nearest safe pull-out downhill when the street is too tight to reach the door, then carry the load up on foot. We can't promise to drive any particular grade, and a small-vehicle relay isn't always workable, so a pre-move walkthrough matters here more than anywhere: we ask you to walk the access yourself before move day and tell us the carry distance, the driveway pitch, the stair runs, the canopy clearance, and whether a long truck can even turn around. Flag the grade and the carry when you ask for your quote so we size the truck and the crew for the hill.

    Cottages and Craftsman homes

    Cottages and Craftsman homes

Sierra Madre housing runs old, and the carry changes with it. The flatland south of Sierra Madre Boulevard toward the Arcadia line holds early-to-mid-20th-century Craftsman bungalows, cottages, and Spanish Colonial Revival homes on tight, deep lots, many with narrow doorways, vintage staircases, and built-in millwork. Up in the canyon and the north foothills, small early-1900s cabins and later mid-century and custom hillside builds mix in, often with tight interior stairs and long exterior stair runs from the street. In the older cottages, a wide sofa or sectional sometimes takes a careful angle, and other times we take a door off the hinges or break down a bed frame to get it clear. A mattress doesn't come apart, so we carry it flat and ease a box spring through on the diagonal. We pad the staircases and the built-in cabinetry on the way out, lay floor runners on the floors, and wrap furniture in moving blankets and bubble wrap. Sierra Madre runs a cultural heritage and historic-preservation program with a landmark register, so some village storefronts and Craftsman homes carry historic or landmark status, but that's a paperwork matter for the owner and doesn't change how we wrap and carry. We don't pre-measure on a site visit, so it helps to tell us the doorway and stairwell situation ahead of time, along with any vintage or built-in pieces, when you ask for the quote.

    Best days and times

    Best days and times

Sierra Madre traffic keys off the I-210 and SR-134 through Pasadena and Glendale, which back up hard during weekday commute peaks, and there's no freeway inside town, so everything funnels in from the interchanges to the south along Baldwin Avenue, Michillinda Avenue, or Sierra Madre Villa Avenue. Downtown around Kersting Court, the narrow village lanes and angled curb parking stay busy with pedestrian foot traffic, and weekend hiker traffic to the Mount Wilson Trailhead adds parking pressure at the north end of town. A mid-morning start, after the early commute clears, usually keeps the drive between your two locations short and the hourly clock honest. Weekdays are quieter downtown and easier for gate or front-desk coordination at the apartment corridors and the senior-care facilities than a packed Saturday. Moves here peak in summer, June through August, with the Pasadena Unified School District calendar and lease turnover, though as an older, low-turnover town a lot of the work is established homeowners and downsizing rather than big apartment cycles. Those summer dates fill faster, so the best availability lands mid-week and mid-month. We'll talk timing through when we put your written quote together, so the start matches your access.

Max & Alex are the best movers. They showed up exactly on time and brought any supplies that you may need. They took a lot of care with all my belongings and were super helpful packing up boxes. They took apart my king bed and reassembled it perfectly. They even fixed a loose bolt leaving the bed in better condition than when they arrived. Not a scratch or a ding on anything!...

Not gonna lie after all the quotes I got I was a little skeptical with how affordable their rate was (but I was desperate to save some money haha). But they were amazing! Vladimir and Alik were my 2 men and they handled everything carefully and delicately and like they’ve been doing it forever. They’ve got it down to a science. Nothing damaged or scratched or scuffed or anything and very helpful and communicative. Will def be using them if I ever need to move here again.

After our first movers could not finish the job, I contacted Adept and they fit us in at a very busy time. Our two movers were hardworking and funny and really took care of our belongings. Their rate was much less than our first movers, who did not take great care of our things. I highly recommend Adept Movers.

    Recent Sierra Madre moves

    Sierra Madre Canyon cottage, 91024

A whole-home move out of a small older cottage on a narrow one-lane canyon street, 91024, where the full-size van couldn't clear the steep grade or the tree-canopy overhang. After a pre-move walkthrough, the crew staged the large truck downhill at a safe pull-out and relayed the load uphill with a smaller vehicle, hand-carrying long pieces on foot around the blind curves. They wrapped the furniture in moving blankets and bubble wrap, laid floor runners through the entry, and took the heavier pieces slow on the slope. The owner had walked the access with us ahead of time, so the crew knew the carry distance and the grade before they arrived. A two-mover crew, hourly, with regular cargo insurance already included.

    Sierra Madre Canyon, 91024

    North foothill Craftsman, 91024

This one was a two-story Craftsman on a steep foothill street near the Mount Wilson Trailhead, 91024, with a short, sloped driveway and low tree-canopy clearance out front. The crew managed grade and stair carries between the levels, padded the built-in cabinetry, and staged tight at the curb where there was no room to pull in. They wrapped the furniture in moving blankets and bubble wrap and ran the load on dollies where the ground allowed. The owner flagged the driveway pitch and the stair runs when the quote went out, so the crew sized the truck and the plan for the hill ahead of the day. A two-mover crew, hourly, with the cargo insurance included.

    North Foothills, 91024

    Kersting Court storefront, 91024

A small ground-floor retail tenant relocating in the downtown village around Kersting Court, 91024, needed its space shifted nearby. We moved display fixtures, wrapped inventory, and the office equipment, all at our hourly rate with a two-mover crew. The narrow village lanes had angled curb parking, heavy pedestrian foot traffic, and no loading dock, so we sequenced the load to the available curb frontage and hand-carried the fixtures and boxes to the door. The two spaces sat close together, a short drive between them. The new building asked for a certificate of insurance, and the standard general-liability COI we include for commercial jobs covered it. Back open without losing much of the day.

    Sierra Madre Moving FAQs

    Sierra Madre-specific questions

Our rate starts from $99/hr for a two-mover crew, paid in cash, with regular cargo insurance included. The truck fee is separate, and there's no fuel surcharge or hidden fees. Double drive time applies and is advised on the moving quote. We put the whole estimate in writing so you know what to expect.

We don't currently offer same-day moves. A good Sierra Madre move takes planning, the right truck for a steep canyon lane, and a crew scheduled ahead, and we'd rather set it up properly than rush it. Reach out as early as you can and we'll get you a written quote and a date that works. Even a few days' notice helps us send the right truck for a canyon cottage or a north-foothill driveway with a tight grade.

On most Sierra Madre blocks, no, but downtown around Kersting Court, where curb space is angled and crowded with foot traffic, a reserved spot saves a long carry. The City of Sierra Madre Public Works Department handles encroachment permits for the public right-of-way, and you can reach them at (626) 355-7135 to ask what applies. Pulling the permit and posting it is your job, but we'll tell you where we need the truck to sit so you can request the right spot.

It depends on your load and your access. Our 26-foot truck is the standard for bigger moves. Our 18-foot box truck is the smallest we run, and it's the one we send for the steep, narrow one-lane streets, blind curves, and tree-canopy overhang up in Sierra Madre Canyon and the north foothills near the Mount Wilson Trailhead, where a 26-foot van can't make the turn or the grade. Tell us your address and how much you're moving, and we'll size the truck before move day.

Yes. Our crew packs and unpacks at the hourly rate, and disposable packing materials and supplies are billed separately, not included in the $99. We bring boxes, packing paper, bubble wrap, and wardrobe cartons. We also handle specialty pieces like upright and baby grand pianos, gun safes, fine art, antiques, and home gyms, so let us know up front and we'll plan the crew and equipment around them.

Yes. We're licensed by the California Bureau of Household Goods and Services, license number MTR0190206, and BBB-accredited with an A+ rating. Regular cargo insurance is included on every move at no extra charge. For commercial moves, a standard COI with general liability is included; custom additional-insured wording is quoted separately.

    General questions

It's hourly, starting at $99/hr for a two-mover crew, cash, with regular cargo insurance included. The truck fee is billed separately. Double drive time applies and is advised on the moving quote. No fuel surcharge, no hidden fees. We put the hourly rate in writing before you book, so there's nothing to guess at on the day.

A clean 5.0 on Google across more than 2,000 reviews comes down to a few habits: a clear written quote before you book, uniformed and background-checked crews, regular cargo insurance on every job, and no pressure afterward. Plenty of movers chase volume. We'd rather earn the next job by referral, and the reviews are what come out of that.

For a mid-week, mid-month date, a week's notice is usually plenty. Weekends, the end of the month, and the summer stretch from June through August fill up faster, so give it two to three weeks if you can. We don't currently offer same-day moves, so it's worth getting on the calendar early either way.

Life happens. Reach out as early as you can and we'll work with you to find the next open slot that fits. The sooner you let us know, the easier it is to move the crew around.
