Permits and street rules

On most La Puente blocks, parking the truck at the curb is straightforward. But in Old Town along Main Street and Old Valley Boulevard, on the busy retail frontage of Valley Boulevard or Hacienda Boulevard, or where the truck needs to sit for hours on a narrow residential street, a reserved curb space can save a long carry. Inside the city, the City of La Puente handles street-use and encroachment matters through its Public Works and Building and Safety divisions at City Hall, 15900 E. Main Street, and you can reach the permit line at (626) 855-1542 or the main line at (626) 855-1500 to ask what applies to a moving truck on your block. Whether La Puente requires a dedicated permit for moving-truck curb staging, as opposed to a general encroachment permit, is worth confirming with the city directly. A lot of the La Puente mailing area, Bassett, Valinda, Avocado Heights, and South San Jose Hills, is unincorporated county, so curb-use coordination there routes to Los Angeles County Public Works rather than the city. Pulling the permit and posting it is your job, not ours, but we'll tell you exactly where we need the truck to sit so you can request the right spot. Oversize truck movement on the 60 is handled by Caltrans, separate from a city curb permit.

Old Town and commercial building access

La Puente is mostly single-family and small-multifamily, so building access centers on narrow mid-century streets, short driveways, and curb-only staging rather than high-rise loading docks. In Old Town, the Main Street and Old Valley Boulevard storefronts sit close to the sidewalk with curb bulb-outs and time-limited parking, so a retail or office relocation there means we sequence the load to work inside the limited curb frontage and the pedestrian improvements. Apartment and small-multifamily moves near Valley Boulevard and the western Industry edge often come with shared entries and limited on-site parking, so knowing where the truck can stage helps. If a building does have a shared entry, an elevator, or a loading window, reserving that window is yours to handle with the property manager, not ours. We don't book the elevator or hold a dock for you, but once you've set the window, we coordinate our arrival to it, pad the shared lobbies and hallways, run the load on dollies, and keep it moving. If a building asks for a certificate of insurance, a standard general-liability COI is included for commercial jobs, and custom additional-insured wording is quoted separately. Small lots, narrow streets, and curb access

La Puente sits on flat valley floor, so the access challenge here is rarely grade, it's tight lots and dense curbs. Across central La Puente, Valinda, and West Puente Valley, the 1950s-60s tracts run small lots with short driveways and narrow streets, so a 26-foot truck often can't sit in the driveway or turn easily on the block. We stage at the curb and carry to the front door, and when the street is too tight for the big truck, we send our 18-foot box truck, the smallest we run. Near Valley Boulevard, residential blocks back up against the Industry rail and warehouse belt, where daytime truck traffic can squeeze the loading window. The Avocado Heights equestrian district to the southwest is its own kind of access: larger semi-rural parcels on narrow rural-section roads, deep setbacks, and horse-keeping easements, so the carry from the curb runs long and a big truck needs room to turn around. Out on the eastern edge in South San Jose Hills, a few 1960s-70s tracts step onto mild slopes with curving cul-de-sac streets, nothing like canyon grades but enough to plan the curb spot. We don't run a shuttle service, so we ask you to walk the access before move day and tell us the carry distance and whether a long truck can turn around, and we'll size the truck and crew for it.

Mid-century blocks and the carry

La Puente's housing is overwhelmingly mid-century, and the carry changes with it. Most of the city went up as 1950s-60s single-family tracts on small lots, with later apartment infill mixed in, so you get narrower doorways, older staircases, and the occasional built-in. On a small-lot tract home, a wide sofa or sectional sometimes takes a careful angle, and other times we take a door off the hinges or break down a bed frame to get it clear. A mattress doesn't come apart, so we carry it flat and ease a box spring through on the diagonal. We pad the doorways and any built-in cabinetry on the way out, lay floor runners on the floors, and wrap furniture in moving blankets and bubble wrap. Older apartment stock near Valley Boulevard often means shared stairwells and tight landings, so we plan the path before the first piece moves. We don't pre-measure on a site visit, so it helps to tell us the doorway and stairwell situation, along with anything heavy or awkward, when you ask for the quote, so we can plan the carry-out around it.

Best days and times

La Puente traffic keys off the freeways at its edges: the 60, the Pomona Freeway, runs along the south side, the 10, the San Bernardino Freeway, sits to the north, and the 605 interchange at Valley Boulevard to the west is a known bottleneck. Locally, Hacienda Boulevard carries the heaviest north-south flow, funneling traffic between the 60 and the city core, while Valley Boulevard concentrates east-west retail and truck traffic past the Industry warehouse belt. Old Town Main Street circulation is slowed by curb bulb-outs and time-limited parking. A mid-morning start, once the early crush clears, usually trims the drive between your two locations and holds down the billed hours. Weekdays are quieter on the retail corridors, and shared apartment entries near Valley Boulevard are easier to work midweek than on a packed Saturday. Moves here peak in summer, June through August, with the Hacienda La Puente Unified and Bassett Unified school calendars and apartment lease turnover, so those dates fill faster and the best availability lands mid-week and mid-month.
