The best thing about being a mover is seeing new places, connecting with new people, and…seeing something you'd never see otherwise. It was like that this time, at Lull St in Reseda. We did the move in mid-July in a single-story ranch house. We parked a 26-foot truck at the curb right next to the driveway. For this job, I took Roman and Ruslan with me.
The Job at a Glance
Pickup: Lull St, Reseda, LA
Destination: Kittridge St, Reseda, LA
Property type: Single-story ranch house
Crew: Three-mover crew
Inventory: 4 wardrobe cartons, a crib, an exercise bike, a treadmill, an aquarium, 2 nightstands, a wine rack, a mattress, a bed frame, a dressing table, a wall mirror, a small vintage jukebox
First Stop: Lull Street
We showed up at Lull Street as planned and began by putting down floor runners to protect the floors. The client showed us the bedroom, where we had to take apart the bed. While Roman and Ruslan were taking care of it, I covered the mattress in stretch wrap, billed as packing material. We loaded everything on the dolly and wheeled it outside.
The dressing table needed extra care. The thing is, it was a delicate vintage piece. I took it apart carefully, wrapped each part in stretch wrap, and rolled everything out to the truck on a dolly. Then I asked the guys to load everything so it'd travel safely.
I came back to the bedroom because there was a wall mirror above the dressing table. I removed it from the wall and covered it with bubble wrap, also billed as a material. I carried it outside, where the guys were loading the crib they'd taken apart and wrapped in our moving blankets. The last item in the bedroom, two nightstands, went to the truck, also blanket-wrapped.
We all went to the living room. There was an empty aquarium, and we wrapped the whole tank in bubble wrap, with extra layers on the corners and edges. Ruslan and Roman rolled it to the vehicle.
Then it was time for the jukebox. Honestly, it was the moment I'd been waiting for. We were all curious about how it worked. So the owner switched it on for us. And seeing how the record dropped into place and hearing the music was awesome. Well, then the show was over, and the client unplugged the jukebox, and we let it cool down for a few minutes before bubble-wrapping and loading it.
Next, we brought four wardrobe cartons from the living room to the truck, and came back to the home gym. Both an exercise bike and a treadmill were about to travel without any packing, so we rolled them out to the truck and secured them with straps. Finally, Ruslan covered the wine rack with our moving blanket and wheeled it from the corridor to the vehicle. Everything was loaded.
Next Stop: Kittridge Street
The new place was in a two-story garden-style complex with an open lot right off the street, and we parked there.
The new place was on the first floor, so we laid down the floor runners and unloaded the wine rack first. It went to the kitchen. Both the treadmill and the exercise bike were carried to the bedroom, where we also left all four wardrobe cartons.
Our favorite part, the jukebox, found its place in the living room. So did the aquarium. We unwrapped both.
Ruslan and Roman brought in the nightstands and placed them in the bedroom. I rolled the parts of the crib to the nursery and put it back together. Then Roman carried the mirror and leaned it against the bedroom wall, while Ruslan and I reassembled the dressing table in the bedroom. We did the same with the bed and finished the day by putting the mattress on the bed.
