Reseda Boulevard: Making the Move from Apartment to House
We went to Reseda Boulevard, Northridge, LA, at the end of May to do a move from a one-bedroom apartment in an apartment complex. I checked all the inventory and the parking details, and decided to take Alex with me.
The Move at a Glance
Pickup: Reseda Boulevard, Northridge, LA
Destination: Wystone Avenue, Northridge, LA
Property type: Apartment in a complex with an elevator
As agreed with the client, we came in the morning. The truck pulled in off the boulevard and stopped right inside the complex's brick-paved entry court. The court was wide and flat, so an 18-foot moving truck fit just perfectly.
When we arrived, she greeted us and took us upstairs. The elevator was ours (the client reserved it in advance), so after a quick apartment check, we got to work.
The dresser in the bedroom was pretty heavy. Alex wrapped it with our moving blankets. It took both of us to lift it onto the dolly and then get it onto the truck.
Back upstairs, I rolled up the rug and wrapped it with clear tape, charged separately. Together with 1 wardrobe carton, I wheeled it outside. Then, one at a time, we carried out the rest of the wardrobe cartons and loaded them into the truck.
The last item in the bedroom was a floor lamp, which we wrapped in bubble wrap, billed as packing material.
Next, we moved to the living room, where we covered both the desk and the chair with our moving blankets and rolled both to the truck. The paintings were also protected by our moving blankets and carefully packed into the truck.
The suitcases were waiting for us in the corridor. The client had packed them up with her own wrapping. All were empty. She just needed to transport them.
Finally, our main concern: a glass coffee table. Alex covered it with our moving blankets. Then I added a layer of bubble wrap, charged separately. The last item was in the truck, and we were ready to go to the client's new home.
At the Drop-off
We came to Wystone Avenue and jumped into the unloading. The drop-off was a single-story, ranch-style family home on a corner lot. For parking, the wide driveway was the best spot. Our truck could back into it, keeping the walk to the front door short and flat.
The first step was putting down floor runners.
Of course, we started with the coffee table. Alex brought it to the living room, where he checked it with the client and placed it next to the armchair. Meanwhile, I carried the suitcases to the garage. I left them wrapped, as required by the client. The paintings were next. I brought them to the living room and put them on the sofa. The client checked each to make sure they made the trip safely.
Alex and I used the dolly to roll the desk and chair into the guest room. The client told us to bring the floor lamp to the guest room as well. We unwrapped every item.
The wardrobe cartons went to the bedroom. The client was in no rush to unpack them, so she chose to buy the cartons and keep them.
Using the dolly, we moved the rug and the dresser into the bedroom. After unwrapping them, we put them exactly where they needed to go. The work at Wystone Avenue was done, and the client was happy that all items arrived safely.
