In August, we had a job to move a client's belongings from a private garage unit to Citronia Street in Northridge, LA. During the phone call, we went through every detail: the inventory, when the crew would arrive, and where to park. Two movers were enough for the job, so I took Ilya with me.
The Move at a Glance
Pickup: Devonshire Street, Northridge, LA
Destination: Citronia Street, Northridge, LA
Property type: Private garage in a townhome complex
Crew: 2-mover crew
Inventory: 1 queen-size bed, 2 nightstands, a washing machine, 3 kitchen cabinets, a dining table with 4 chairs, 5 household boxes, 2 wardrobe cartons
First, Private Garage
As I said, the first stop was a private garage behind a townhome complex in Northridge. We avoided the busy street out front and drove into the back lane, where we parked the 26-foot moving truck right next to the garage door.
The client was already there. He met us and opened the unit.
We quickly checked the scope of work and started with the heaviest stuff. It was the washing machine, of course. I helped Ilya strap it to the dolly and roll it onto the liftgate. There, he secured it against the truck wall so it wouldn't move on the road.
Next was the queen-size bed. We took the frame apart. When all segments of it were wrapped in our moving blankets, we loaded all of them one by one. The two nightstands were also wrapped in our blankets and went in the vehicle the same way.
When it was time to take care of the kitchen cabinets, we took extra care with them because their corners and doors scratch easily. We wrapped each one in moving blankets and placed them safely in the truck.
Finally, the dining table was there, too. Ilya took off the legs to make it easier to carry, and I wrapped the top and 4 chairs in our moving blankets. They all went to the truck as well. We loaded 5 household boxes and 2 wardrobe cartons last.
Next Up, A One-Story House
The drop-off was on Citronia Street. A large, single-story modern detached house had a wide driveway. The client moved his car out of the way, and we parked just a couple of steps from the front door.
First, we put down floor runners to protect the floors. Then we started with what we loaded last. All 5 household boxes went to the kitchen, where the client took care of them. The 2 wardrobe cartons went to the bedroom.
I carried the chairs to the dining room and waited for Ilya to come with the pieces of the table. We attached the legs, set the table in the dining area, and placed the chairs around it. In the kitchen, we unwrapped all three cabinets and left them there for the client to set up later.
Next, we brought in the bed. In the bedroom, we put it together. Then we got back to the truck to bring the nightstands and set them on both sides of the bed.
The last was the washing machine. Again, it was the heaviest thing, so it really took some effort. Ilya and I rolled it on a dolly to the laundry area and set it in place.
The client said that his biggest worry was the washing machine, so he was happy we were there to do the heavy job.
