An Apartment-to-House Move from Moorpark Street to Otsego Street in Sherman Oaks
In September we handled a residential move from Moorpark Street to Otsego Street in Sherman Oaks. Moorpark Street is a mix of apartment buildings and private houses. It is also more active than quiet Otsego Street with many single-family homes. The client had booked this move 12 days beforehand. He mentioned that he needed to move a home gym and a few bulky items down the stairs without an elevator. We used our standard 26-foot truck.
The Move in Brief
Pickup: Moorpark Street, Sherman Oaks
Destination: Otsego Street, Sherman Oaks
Property type: Apartment building to a private house
Crew: 2 movers
Inventory: A wooden dresser, a folding treadmill, a massage chair, a set of dumbbells, a large L-shaped desk, a bed with a mattress, 2 nightstands, a wide wooden filing cabinet, a heavy office chair, a tall bookcase, a small solid-wood dining table, a microwave, a toaster, 4 dining chairs, a bar cart, 4 fragile boxes with dishes and glass, a coffee table, a floor-to-ceiling shelving unit, 8 wardrobe cartons and 12 boxes with other household items like books.
Moorpark Street Loading
On a sunny morning Viktor and I arrived at Moorpark Street and lowered the liftgate. I loaded the boxes, the microwave and toaster, the dining chairs, and the bar cart first to clear the way. The folding treadmill went in right after. Viktor gathered the clothes into wardrobe cartons and took apart the bed frame, so it would fit around the turns on the stairs. We loaded the disassembled bed frame along with the mattress wrapped in a moving blanket into our truck. We wrapped all the furniture and some other items in moving blankets to avoid damage during the moving process. Next, Viktor and I carried down the dumbbell set, two nightstands, a wooden dresser and coffee table.
The hallway was narrow and the stairs had a few turns, so I had to unscrew the large L-shaped desk. Otherwise it simply would not fit. The solid-wood dining table and floor-to-ceiling shelving unit had to be turned or angled, but we managed to load them into the truck. Viktor helped me to wheel the wide wooden filing cabinet, then we came back for the heavy office chair and tall bookcase along with the massage chair using a hand truck.
Otsego Street Delivery
When we parked at the Otsego Street driveway, the client explained to us how he wanted to organize a gym in his garage and asked us to drop off the folding treadmill, massage chair and set of dumbbells there. Then he showed us around inside the house. I placed the wardrobe cartons in the bedroom and Viktor helped me to bring the wooden dresser using a hand truck. Viktor then put together the bed frame and placed the mattress on top. We carried the nightstands into the bedroom. I reassembled the large L-shaped desk and brought the heavy office chair to accompany it. Then we wheeled in the wooden filing cabinet and tall bookcase. Viktor brought the microwave and the toaster into the kitchen, and then I helped him with the large solid-wood dining table. Viktor added the four dining chairs and the bar cart. We placed the coffee table in the room where the client pointed us, as well as the fragile boxes. Lastly, we carried the floor-to-ceiling shelving unit and the 12 boxes inside.
By the time we left, the only two items that were taken apart, the bed frame and the L-shaped desk, were ready to use.
