One Bedroom Apartment Move from South Oakhurst Drive in Beverly Hills to Overland Avenue
Adept Moving handled a local apartment move at the end of July, from South Oakhurst Drive in Beverly Hills over to Overland Avenue in Los Angeles. One bedroom, ground floor, three movers and an 18-foot truck. Parking was the piece that got worked out before the day, since South Oakhurst is a narrow residential block with no driveway to pull into.
The customer sent her inventory over before the day. Two things stood out. The sofa, wider than the doorway it had to leave through, that was one. No elevator at the new building, and the unit up on the second floor, that was the other.
The job at a glance
Pickup: South Oakhurst Drive, Beverly Hills, CA 90212
Destination: Overland Avenue, Los Angeles, CA
Property Type: One bedroom apartment
Crew: Three professional movers
Inventory: One three-seat sofa, a queen bed frame and mattress, a dresser, two nightstands, a dining table with four chairs, a television, six wardrobe boxes of hanging clothes, and roughly fifteen household boxes.
Piece by piece, none of it was heavy. The sofa is what shaped the day, the doorway here and the staircase on the other end, and that is why a third mover went out on a one bedroom job.
Loading on South Oakhurst Drive
The truck sat mid block on South Oakhurst Drive in Beverly Hills, far enough back from the corner to stay clear of the stop sign and inside legal curb space. Ramp down onto the asphalt. From the tailgate to the apartment door is roughly forty feet of walkway, long enough that we ran the load in a set order.
Oakhurst and Whitworth. The truck stood mid block, back from this corner.
The sofa was the slow one. Legs off first, then moving blankets over the arms and the back. It came through the doorway on its side at an angle, with Ilya walking it backward while Timofey called the turn. Then onto a dolly, up the ramp, and stood on end at the front wall, tied off through the D-rings with the mattress wedged in beside it.
The dresser rode with its drawers taped shut. The bed frame came apart into rails and headboard, and the legs came off the table as well. Hanging clothes went into wardrobe boxes so nothing had to come off a hanger. The customer had boxed the kitchen and the closets well ahead of the day, so our crew stayed on furniture. I did a final walk-through with her before the truck doors shut, coat closet included.
Wardrobe boxes go up the ramp as they are. Nothing comes off a hanger.
Driving to Overland Avenue
Overland Avenue is a few miles from South Oakhurst, city streets the whole way, no freeway. The same three went up the stairs at the other end.
Delivery to a Second Floor Walk Up
One exterior staircase, no elevator, that's the Overland Avenue building in Los Angeles. Truck to the curb, again. Boxes went up first, marked for the room they belonged in, so the landing stayed clear once furniture started moving.
Then the sofa. Dolly for the flat stretch, hands from the bottom step up. A half turn at the landing, a post right on the inside corner, that's the part a three-seat sofa does not swing through flat, so it went up on its end, tipped past the post, and leveled off again on the upper flight. Same reason the bed frame went up in parts. The dresser, that one cleared the door frame at an angle rather than straight on.
The sofa stayed wrapped until the customer had settled on where it was going. Then the movers put the legs back on and set it against the wall she picked. The table got its legs once the chairs were up, and each box found the room marked on its label. Once the truck was empty, I went back through the apartment with her.
The Staircase Was in the Plan
The stairs at Overland were the one piece worth planning around, a full flight with a turn partway up, and that got worked out before the truck ever left South Oakhurst. Crew and equipment matched the job from the start, and it showed: the customer said the stair turn with the sofa was the smoothest part to watch, and that every piece landed in the room she'd marked for it.
Apartment moves like this one are most of what our crews do between Beverly Hills and the west side of the city.
