One Bedroom Move from Beverly Hills to West 3rd Street in Westlake

Adept Moving ran a one bedroom move out of North Elm Drive in Beverly Hills and into an apartment on West 3rd Street in Westlake in late July. Three movers, an 18-foot truck, a load that came together without much fuss.

3rd Street is where the planning went. No driveway at the building, and legal curb space on that block goes early in the day, all of which the customer had flagged when she booked.

The job at a glance

  • Pickup: North Elm Drive, Beverly Hills, CA 90210
  • Destination: West 3rd Street, Los Angeles, CA
  • Property Type: One bedroom condo
  • Crew: Three professional movers
  • Inventory: A heavy glass front china cabinet, a queen bed with mattress, a two-seat couch, a small dining table with two chairs, a chest of drawers, a desk, five wardrobe boxes, and about twenty household boxes.

The china cabinet was the reason for the third pair of hands, glass shelves and a two-piece hutch heavy enough to justify it. Everything else, two movers would have managed easily.

Loading on North Elm Drive

Elm gave our crew room to work. Quiet residential block in Beverly Hills, space at the curb near the entrance, nothing about the pickup that had to be worked around.

The cabinet took the longest. Glass shelves came out first, each one into bubble wrap and taped shut so nothing could work its way loose in transit. Bubble wrap and tape go on the materials line of the bill. Moving blankets, dollies and wardrobe boxes come with the crew at no extra charge. Then the hutch lifted off the base, two pieces instead of one tall awkward one, and both got blankets over them with the doors taped shut before either left the room. Base out first, standing upright between two movers, hutch behind it.

The rest was ordinary. Bed frame broke down to rails, slats and headboard, the legs came off the dining table and got bagged and secured to the underside, so they'd still be there at the far end, and the desk went out whole. The customer had packed most of the small stuff herself, and by the time our crew got there, boxes were taped and labeled room by room. Before the truck doors shut, the customer made a final pass through the unit with our senior mover Roman to confirm the closets were clear.

Driving to Westlake

Nine miles east across the city, no freeway at any point, just surface streets and lights. Same three movers on the truck from Elm to 3rd Street.

Unloading on West 3rd Street

West 3rd Street in Los Angeles is a working street, and the building has nothing set aside for a truck. Our crew parked in the nearest legal curb space up the block, dropped the ramp at the tailgate and ran the load in along the sidewalk rather than working out of the roadway. All three worked the unload together, Roman and Ilya moving boxes and furniture while I stayed close to the china cabinet from the moment it came off the ramp.

The mattress came down first, still in the plastic the customer had put on it, tipped back on a dolly and angled so the corners stayed clear of the ramp edge. Boxes followed, sorted by the room written on each one. Furniture came off after that, bed frame first since it had to go back together before anything else could be arranged around it.

The cabinet came last, on purpose. Base down the ramp and inside, then the hutch set back onto it once the base was standing where the customer wanted it, then the glass shelves unwrapped one at a time and slid in. The couch and the desk went where she pointed as they came through. The customer checked every room once the last piece was placed, and the truck didn't pull away until everything was confirmed accounted for.

Sized for the China Cabinet

Curb access on 3rd Street surfaced during the original booking call, days before the truck ever left the yard, so the carry from the truck to the door and a third pair of hands for the china cabinet were both in the plan by the time the crew was assigned.

The customer's note afterward came down to two things: how carefully everything had been wrapped, and how quickly the crew worked.

Beverly Hills to Central LA is a route our crews run most weeks. Our Beverly Hills movers page covers the pickup end, Los Angeles movers covers the Westlake side, and local moving has the rest of what we handle inside the city.
