The Move from a Two-Story Stand-Alone House on Palmetto Dr, Pasadena

In June, we took on a job in Pasadena. The client was getting ready to move and wanted a crew to help with it at Palmetto Dr. He asked Adept crew to do a move from a 2-story, single-family house to an apartment in a mid-rise mixed-use building. We agreed that the client would arrange the parking spot.

During the call, we checked each item to be moved, and it turned out that 3 movers would do. Andrey, Artem, and I took the job.

The Move at a Glance

  • Pickup: Palmetto Dr, Pasadena
  • Destination: N El Molino Avenue, Pasadena
  • Property type: Two-story stand-alone house
  • Crew: 3-mover crew
  • Inventory: A sofa with 3 cushions, a wooden dresser, 2 framed paintings, 3 boxes with kids' toys, a kitchen table with 6 chairs, 2 guitars, 1 china cabinet, 1 coffee machine.

Loading Up on Palmetto Dr, Pasadena

The first stop was a quiet two-lane residential street with regular curb parking allowed. The client checked the street-sweeping schedule as well. Instead of parking at the curb, we backed the 26-foot moving truck into the client's driveway.

The client asked us to start in the living room. Some of his belongings, like beds and cupboards, he had moved himself, but still, we had some job to do. A huge sofa stood in the middle of the room, and we had to take it apart before moving and loading it. But before we started, we laid down floor runners to protect the floors. I also decided to cover the doorway with moving blankets. After all, the sofa parts were so big that they could easily have damaged the door frame on the way out. Wrapped with moving blankets, all sections of the sofa went to the truck. Artem used the stretch wrap to protect the cushions, which we billed separately as a packing material.

While I wrapped the two framed paintings in bubble wrap, billed separately, and carried them to the truck, my colleagues covered the wooden dresser in moving blankets. I helped them place it on the dolly.

Andrey went to the kids' room upstairs while I headed to the kitchen with Artem. The client had already taken the table apart before our crew arrived, so we just had to pack each part and the chairs in moving blankets. Together with a coffee machine that the client put in its original box, they all went to the truck. While we were loading kitchen stuff, Andrey came out with the boxes of kids' toys stacked on a dolly.

Together, we came back to the dining room for a china cabinet. It was antique and needed special care. We used our moving blankets and added a layer of bubble wrap, billed separately. Then, we carefully placed the china cabinet on a dolly, and Andrey wheeled it to the truck, with Artem walking alongside to keep it steady.

The guitars were in cases, but the client had already wrapped them in his own packing materials. I put both in the truck, and we set off to the next spot.

The Drop-off at N El Molino Avenue

The drop-off was a completely different story since the client was moving into an apartment in a mid-rise mixed-use building. Unfortunately, stopping near the corner wasn't an option, so the client arranged a move-in slot with building management. Our crew parked in the loading area by the garage entrance.

When the parking was done, I took the guitars first and headed to the building, where the client had reserved the freight elevator in advance. In the apartment, I put the guitars in the living room. The client showed me the kitchen and pointed out where the china cabinet should go, which my colleagues were about to bring. When they brought it, unwrapped it, and placed it where needed, I carried the coffee machine and left it wrapped on the kitchen countertop, upon the client's request.

We went back to the truck for the table parts and the chairs. We put the table back together in the kitchen and placed it next to the window with the chairs around it. One by one, Artem brought the kids' boxes and put them in the kids' room. Andrey handled the wall art. He unpacked the paintings and leaned them against the wall in the living room. Then Andrey and Artem carried the dresser into the bedroom while I prepared the sofa parts and cushions for loading onto the dolly. We brought them all to the living room and began the assembly job. It was tough because of the bulky sections that were hard to lift and maneuver. Finally, we got it done. Then we unwrapped the cushions and put them on the sofa. That was it. The client was happy everything was done on time, especially the stubborn sofa job.
