A Local's Guide to Moving in Glendale

Who lives and moves in this area

Glendale is a lively city in the greater Los Angeles area with its unique vibe. People move here quite often.

It's a well-known fact that there are a lot of artistic people near Disney's Grand Central Creative Campus and DreamWorks who move regularly. Retail people who work throughout the Galleria area are busy with their jobs and are also prone to moving. They value their time, so the time-consuming process of moving to another adjacent area is a sure-fire priority for them. Medical workers from Adventist Health Glendale are also among the residents who move most often. When a new job or a new home comes up, people look for the best moving options that can solve their problem and save time.

    Glendale neighborhoods explained

Downtown Glendale is also one of the busiest and jam-packed areas that we assisted with moving. There are a lot of monumental locations in this area that can be constantly intertwined with moving between areas or throughout all of Los Angeles. Glendale Galleria, located in the heart of downtown, can be a striking example. It's a three-story mall with 30 million visitors and 200+ stores in it.

Moving from here means packing/unpacking and loading. Adept Moving assists with such moves whenever a client gives a call. The Americana at Brand is also a prominent place in Downtown Glendale. This luxurious lifestyle center has 242 rented apartments, more than 100 condominiums, as well as restaurants and shopping malls. One of the crown achievements of this area is a Wet Design fountain.

Oftentimes, clients can't move single-handedly in this area, as this process can be tedious and time-consuming. That's where Adept Moving strives to show its expertise and client-first approach. Put your trust in professionals who can do all this uphill work for you, including loading/unloading and packing.

The Hills and Verdugo areas, on the other hand, are unique and require hands-on experience and expertise when providing moving services there. Our seasoned professionals have a knack for moving in the most complex areas. Considering their experience, they know what truck they should drive for this specific order and what equipment should be on board. They do know that Verdugo Woodlands and Glenoaks Canyon were built in the 1920s and 1930s.

These narrow streets are well-known for their tight and twisted turns that can be no picnic to drive and park on for an average driver. It can be an uphill task to park a huge moving truck if you don't know the information beforehand. Given that, our company won't use 26-foot trucks when making moves in this area. So, selecting the 18-foot trucks will be the most reasonable option in this case.

Rossmoyne is one of the most striking areas of Glendale. It was built between 1923 and 1950. Finally, it was recognized as a historic city area in 2012. This area is truly peaceful, with curving streets, marvelous lamps, and a curved layout.

Adams Hill was also built in the 1930s. The curvy streets of Adams Hill are a sight to behold. There are houses with garages at street level, with the house itself dropping two or three stories down the hillside below it, connected by balconies along the way, and bungalows with pitched roofs. So, when people move in this area, they need qualified help. Adept Moving is always eager to help if you contact us and tell us the details of your move. We are at your service.

Montrose area is also lively. Built in the early 1910s, it still sparks a lot of attention. A bonafide buzzing area. However, Honolulu Avenue has one of the tightest turns in Glendale. So, when you plan a commercial move here, you need suitable trucks that will help with loading, unloading, and packing/unpacking.

    When people move in Glendale

As a rule of thumb, families often move to Glendale right before the new school year kicks in. Glendale Unified School District usually starts in mid-August, so families have time to plan their move beforehand. People start planning their move in May-July to have more time for adaptation and accommodation. So because of this busy time of the year, it's better to start planning in advance.

    Why Adept

California-licensed since 1998, working every Glendale zip from the Downtown high-rises to the 1920s streets of the Verdugos.

    Serving Glendale since 1998

Licensed company Adept Moving is one of the oldest moving companies in LA. We have only background-checked, qualified movers who will help solve your problem as fast as possible.

Exceptional 5-star rating with 2,000+ reviews

We conduct commercial and residential moves in Glendale and other LA areas. We know the ropes, and we always put our clients first. So, our 5-star rating is proof of our trustworthiness.

    A rate confirmed in writing

Our seasoned crew will help you with your move at a rate starting from $99/hr, confirmed in writing before your move day.

The right truck for the right case

We have a lot of different trucks at our disposal. It solely depends on your area and the specifics of your move. We'd pick the smallest 18-foot truck for the 1920s-built curved streets of the Verdugo Woodlands or Glenoaks Canyon. If the big 26-foot mover won't fit, we'd pick the smallest of our fleet.

    Transparent double drive time

Transparent double drive time is one of our company's major policies. So, according to our policies, it will be spelled out in the written quote before moving day. It'll never be added afterward.

    Insurance

Insurance is a vital part of every move for our company. Every single Glendale move is subject to regular cargo insurance. On commercial moves, we provide a standard general-liability certificate of insurance (COI).

    How We Assist in Glendale

    Residential Moving in Glendale

    Residential Moving in Glendale

Residential moving is a vital day-to-day part of a city like Glendale. People regularly move.

Our workers always ask clients about the details, namely driveway access, gates, and the pick-up point, before making an ideal access route. We often ask about walkthrough access if we are going to work on hillside addresses in Verdugo Woodlands or Adams Hill. If you're planning a move from a condo in Downtown Glendale, it will definitely require a completely different approach than moving from a house in Adams Hill. In this case, well-thought-out planning and client elevator reservation might matter the most. If it's not reserved beforehand, the move will take more time than usual.

    Commercial moves in Glendale

    Commercial moves in Glendale

Usually, we send a two-mover crew for a small office; larger commercial spaces get more hands. We cover all areas of Glendale and are ready to assist when you need it the most. Adept Moving lends a hand in moving office furniture, desks, and numerous store fixtures.

Especially in The Americana at Brand, a modern retail and residential center with numerous offices, a cinema, and an Apple Store. Our crew is always eager to work with such commercial moves. We are always ready for any specific move. You don't need to be alone in this situation, just book an order, and we'll be ready to help. This will definitely speed up the process.

    Packing and unpacking in Glendale

    Packing and unpacking in Glendale

We consider packing services a vital part of every move as well. Some people like to do this on their own, while others can't afford to spend extra time packing their belongings. Adept Moving is at your service when you need this service done properly and in no time. It's not a small task, and packing labor runs at the same rate from $99/hr, but the moving process will just take more time. Disposable packing materials and supplies are billed separately.

    Operational Knowledge

The Glendale details that decide a move day: curb permits, Downtown building access, the Verdugos, and the historic blocks of Rossmoyne.

    Parking permits and street regulations

    Parking permits and street regulations

Each city in the greater Los Angeles area has its own parking permits, and Glendale is not an exception. Before setting up a truck from our fleet, it's crucial to bear in mind that Glendale requires a temporary no-parking permit. It should already be covered by our client before one of our trucks can occupy curb space for a defined period of time.

A Glendale office at 633 East Broadway is at your service when you need to obtain one. It's extremely convenient and bureaucracy-free. Glendale's Public Works Engineering Division is issuing them, so it won't be a mammoth task of obtaining at your earliest convenience. Just know that they can't be issued the moment you ask. Apply at least 72 hours before move day, so plan accordingly. It just depends on your particular case and the area you live. Judging by our experience, many office buildings already have loading docks, as well as there are a lot of private driveways in this area that provide enough curb space for our trucks. In these cases, the parking permits won't be needed at all.

Building access in Downtown Glendale high-rises

Building access in Downtown Glendale high-rises

Building access is also a vital part of proper and lightning-fast moving operations in Downtown Glendale. You can't run a smooth move in this area without having it.

It's also case-dependent for every move we assist with in this area. We'd like to know all the information about your area and building before planning a well-suited approach for your case. If you don't have a loading dock, it might be possible to look for other alternatives. In this case, you can look for a street-side permit.

For instance, let's have an eagle eye on The Brand, located in the heart of Downtown Glendale. We'll not accentuate the beauty and essence of this high-rise building, but we will praise its operational value. It has two adjacent buildings, 500 North Brand Boulevard and 550 North Brand Boulevard, with a lot of commercial enterprises inside, and they run their own loading protocols. The client is responsible for ordering a freight elevator in a direct conversation with building management. This can be discussed during the booking call, and after a well-knit conversation, our Adept team sets the moving date and crew departure.

    Hillside moves in the Verdugos

    Hillside moves in the Verdugos

Hillside moves in the Verdugos require expertise in this area and a keen eye for detail. Verdugos cover all the hillside areas of Glendale, including Verdugo Woodlands, Chevy Chase Canyon, Glenoaks Canyon, and Adams Hill. All these areas were built over the span of the 1920s and 1930s. The narrow streets can be a hard task to park on, even for regular vehicles, let alone big moving trucks. In light of this, after wrapping up a productive conversation with our client, we'd send our smallest 18-foot trucks for this particular case because bigger trucks won't be able to handle these curvy turns.

We want to make sure the moving process will go as smoothly as possible, but we need to plan it carefully beforehand. The truck and onboard equipment will be carefully selected for any specific move in the Verdugos because our experts know that this area can be tricky. Some cases in these hillside areas might require several trips to carry additional loads if needed.

Chevy Chase Canyon is also a part of the great Verdugos. As we know, residents of this area organized early. Chevy Chase Estates Association played a major role in the Hillside Ordinance being adopted because they cared about the overdevelopment problem.

Nothing beats a simple walkthrough around your area before ordering a move. In this case, you'll know and share with us more information about the driveways, the turns, and the slope. Just a reminder for our clients to have a walkthrough around their neighborhood in their spare time to check that there's enough space for our truck. This is a common approach for many hillside addresses.

    Historic homes in Rossmoyne

    Historic homes in Rossmoyne

Rossmoyne is the historic pearl of Glendale. It's the largest historic district, which was officially designated in 2012. This area is well-known for more than 500 period-revival houses. Haddock-Nibley Company was responsible for building this area, which took 27 years, from 1923 to 1950.

There are 503 period-revival-style houses that can still bear a lot of historical significance for its citizens. The lion's share of these houses were built in the 1940s. It's safe to say that we can see a lot of antique furniture in these historic houses. We know the ropes on how to manage it properly; we use antique furniture protection, and we wrap each piece of furniture individually with moving blankets. Hardwood floors can be seen very often in these houses, in light of this, our crew can take extra care protecting them with our floor runners.

Best moving days and times in Glendale

Best moving days and times in Glendale

Let's dive more into the specifics of moving in Glendale: which days will be the most suitable options. If you're an early bird in moving and planning, it actually pays off. As we covered this before, you won't be able to obtain these permits right away, hence, it will be smarter to apply at least 72 hours before move day. You'd also need to have a word with building management for freight elevator reservations beforehand. So, if you plan your move with a two- or three-week gap, it will cut the mustard.

Summer is historically one of the best and busiest times for moving. People always return home before the new educational year kicks in. They usually need to start planning this in May-July to have more spare time in advance. Compared with other LA cities we serve, the best crew availability is usually during mid-week and mid-month windows.

Two-Story Apartment Move from Allen Avenue to Raymond Avenue in Glendale

Two-Story Apartment Move from Allen Avenue to Raymond Avenue in Glendale

Adept Moving handled a local apartment move from Allen Avenue, Glendale, CA 91201, in April. The block is a quiet one, duplexes and bougainvillea along the curb down the road. The two-story Tudor-style apartment is the one that stands out on that street.

The client reached out a few days ahead, confirmed access, told us what he planned to move, and we set the date. He needed to move because his apartment was going under repair for a while. Two stories, and every item had to come down the stairs, so we sent a three-mover crew with standard equipment. I took David and Maxim with me.

    • Property Type: Two-story apartment
    • Crew: Three professional movers
    • Inventory: A loveseat, 15 household boxes (3 fragile), a microwave oven, 3 nightstands, a dresser, a small dining table with 4 chairs, a 50-inch TV with a PlayStation, and 5 wardrobe cartons.

    Loading on Allen Avenue

Streets and neighborhoods differ on permits and curb rules, so the one thing we needed settled before the day was a legal loading spot. The client was well informed about that and confirmed it on the call. Morning suited him, it was his day off. We took the 26-foot box truck for this one.

We arrived at the agreed time. The spot the client had confirmed was there waiting, so the truck went straight to it. Cone out by the ramp, liftgate already down to run the dolly in and out.

Shrink-wrapped loveseat on a moving dolly on the walkway at an Allen Avenue apartment in Glendale
The loveseat came down the stairs in blankets and went out on the dolly.

The client let us in and walked us through what was going. Floor runners went down over the old floors before anything moved. Maxim took the bedroom where the loveseat was. Small enough that it did not need to come apart, so it went into moving blankets and the two of us carried it down the stairs to the truck.

David took the other bedroom and started running the 15 household boxes out on the dolly. The three fragile ones got their own space in the truck. He loaded by weight. The dresser came out on the dolly as well. Then the dining table came apart, a tabletop and four legs, all of it wrapped in moving blankets along with the chairs.

I took the hall, where the client pointed out the 50-inch TV and the PlayStation. He had kept the original cartons and wanted them packed that way. He had told us on the call that the TV was not wall-mounted, so there was nothing to take off a wall. Both went back into their own boxes and then into moving blankets before they were loaded. After that I brought out the 5 wardrobe cartons, the microwave, and the 3 nightstands.

The client walked the apartment with Maxim before the doors shut, to be sure everything was on the truck.

    Delivery to Raymond Avenue

Raymond Avenue is a few blocks away, still Glendale. Legal spot at the curb again. This end was the easier half: a one-story apartment with ground-floor access and no stairs at all.

The TV and the PlayStation went in first, still in blankets. David carried them with me and the customer showed us where in the hall they were going. David also brought in the 3 nightstands, the household boxes, the wardrobe cartons, and the dresser.

Maxim and I took the loveseat. The microwave went into the corner of the kitchen. The small dining table and the 4 chairs went to the kitchen too, and the table was put back together there, tabletop in place and the legs back on.

Stairs at One End, None at the Other

The load itself was an ordinary one bedroom. What set the crew size was the flight of stairs at the pickup, and knowing about it before the day is what kept the morning short. The client said as much afterwards, about the pace and about the wrapping.

Apartment moves inside Glendale are most of what our crews do here. Stairs, walkways and curb access are the things worth telling us when you book. More on the neighborhood is on our Glendale movers page, the rest of the coverage sits under Los Angeles movers, and packing and unpacking has its own page.

Single-Story House Move from Bellevue Drive to Watson Street in Glendale

Single-Story House Move from Bellevue Drive to Watson Street in Glendale

Adept Moving handled a move out of Bellevue Drive, Glendale, CA 91201, in May. The street is residential and low-density, mostly California Ranch and Spanish-style single-story houses down the block. The Verdugo foothills sit behind the rooftops.

The client confirmed access before we even set the date. He was outgrowing the place and taking everything with him, oversized pieces included. A move like that is normally a three-mover job, so Kostya and Dima were with me.

    The job at a glance

    • Pickup: Bellevue Drive, Glendale, CA 91201
    • Destination: Watson Street, Glendale, CA 91201
    • Property Type: Single-family residence
    • Crew: Three professional movers
    • Inventory: An 85-inch OLED TV, a queen-size bed, 2 nightstands, a fridge, a two-seater sofa, a dresser, a dining table with 10 chairs, and around 20 household boxes, a few of them fragile.

    Loading on Bellevue Drive

Once access was confirmed we built the timetable around the traffic, because getting to the pickup on time meant staying out of rush hour. The client agreed to a morning slot.

We took a 26-foot truck for this one. Bellevue Drive is wide, there was room to bring it in, and none of the turns were tight. We parked legally at the curb and put a cone by the ramp, liftgate down for the dolly.

Adept Moving truck with the liftgate down on Bellevue Drive in Glendale, the Verdugo foothills behind
Bellevue Drive is wide enough for the 26-foot truck, foothills behind the rooftops.

Inside, all three of us had something to do. Floor runners went down first. Kostya took the hall where the TV was. He repacked the OLED back into its original box, then put a moving blanket over that. It rode as a fragile item, upright and secured against the truck wall. Kostya also ran all 20 household boxes out on the dolly, the fragile ones in their own space, loaded by weight.

I went to the bedroom for the queen bed. It had to come partly apart before it left the room. Box spring and frame pieces separated and wrapped, mattress wrapped too, all of it out to the truck. Then the living room, where Kostya helped me with the two-seater sofa. Small enough that nothing needed to come apart.

There was a small fridge, which went out on the dolly over the runners we had already laid, and got its moving blanket outside like everything else.

The customer showed us the dining table, and Dima took that one with me because a table needs a different approach. It came apart into five pieces, a tabletop and four legs. The legs were wrapped and carried as one unit. Then Dima came back with the dolly for the wrapped tabletop and loaded it. He carried the dresser out on the dolly as well, blanketed before it left the house, and after that the two nightstands and the 10 chairs.

While Dima was finishing, Kostya and I walked the house to check nothing had been missed.

    Delivery to Watson Street

Watson Street is a couple of blocks down the road, another single-story house, access already confirmed. Kostya helped me carry the 85-inch TV in, still in its carton and blankets, to where the client pointed. The two-seater sofa went in there too. Dima and Kostya unloaded the 20 boxes, fragile ones first, sorted by room. Dima came back for the dresser and took it to the bedroom. The fridge went to the spot the client picked in the kitchen.

The dining table was put back together, tabletop in place and the four legs back on, and the client asked for it and the chairs in the dining room.

The bed came in last, in pieces, and went back together in the bedroom. The frame first, always, then the box spring, then the mattress on top.

The OLED Was the Piece to Plan Around

Nothing here was complicated by the street. Bellevue Drive gave us room and the delivery was a level walk. What the client was actually worried about was the 85-inch TV, which is why it went back in its own box before it went anywhere. Telling us about a piece like that at booking is what lets us plan it instead of improvising on the day.

House moves inside Glendale are steady work for our crews. More on the neighborhood is on our Glendale movers page, the wider area sits under Los Angeles movers, and if you want the boxes done too, that is packing and unpacking.

An Apartment Move from North Central Avenue to East Doran Street in Glendale

An Apartment Move from North Central Avenue to East Doran Street in Glendale

Adept Moving handled a residential move from North Central Avenue over to East Doran Street in Glendale. North Central is one of the city's main arteries, running from Downtown up toward Atwater and Glendale Boulevard. Wide, straight, no tight turns. Our pickup sat in Verdugo Viejo, the dense neighborhood just north of Downtown Glendale.

The street was the easy part. The walkway was not. It was a garden-style complex with a long landscaped path running from the curb, curving past a courtyard and a few palms, all the way to the apartment door.

The client called a week ahead and confirmed curb access. He was moving a small number of items rather than a full apartment. We still put three movers on it, and that walkway is the reason. Roman and Alik were with me.

    Loading on North Central Avenue

The client wanted a morning, so that is when we set the arrival. A legal parking spot was the thing to settle first, and he had it confirmed on the call well ahead. We took an 18-foot box truck out for this one.

All three of us got there at the agreed time and parked where the client had confirmed. Cones out behind the truck, liftgate down.

The walkway from the courtyard out to the curb. That is where the time went.

Inside, each of us had a different job. The client wanted extra floor protection, so the runners went down before anything moved. I took the hall and started on the wardrobe cartons, out on the dolly along a path we had already covered. That walkway from the courtyard to the truck is long, and it is where the time went. The rest of the job was straightforward.

Most of it the client had packed himself, which saved us time on the day.

Wardrobe cartons go as they are, so nothing comes off a hanger.

Back inside, I loaded the fifteen or so boxes onto the dolly, nothing left behind. A few needed their own space, so I treated them as fragile and put them in their own corner of the truck.

Roman went to the bedroom where the client pointed out the boxed mirror. It was already packed, and the only thing that mattered was keeping it that way. Alik and I brought it out and put a moving blanket over the box for good measure. In the truck it stood on its edge against the side wall, clear of anything that could come down flat on it.

Alik carried the mattress, covered in a moving blanket before it left the apartment.

We walked the place once more before driving off, checking everything was loaded.

    Delivery to East Doran Street

East Doran Street is close by, a ground-floor apartment on a residential street, and we had a legal spot confirmed there too. The wardrobe cartons and the packed boxes went in first, Alik carrying them to the bedroom with me.

The mattress came in on the second run. The mirror stayed boxed and on its edge in the truck the longest, because we waited on the client to say where it was going. Roman carried it in with me.

The client had expected the walkway and the mirror to be the hard parts of the day. Neither turned out to be.

The Walkway Set the Crew, Not the Load

This was a small inventory. What decided three movers was the distance between the front door and the curb, and the fact that all of it curved. A long carry does not show up on an item list, which is exactly why it is worth mentioning when you book.

Garden-style complexes run the length of Glendale, and long walkways come with them. More on how we work the city is on our Glendale movers page, the wider coverage is under Los Angeles movers, and packing and unpacking is separate if boxes are part of it.

    Glendale Moving FAQ

    Glendale-specific questions

Yes, we do. We cover all of Glendale city, starting from the rocky hillsides of the Verdugo Woodlands, Adams Hill, and Chevy Chase Canyon to high-rises in the Downtown area. We are ready to get there as soon as possible, but we need to know the specifics of your move beforehand to pick the most suitable approach.

Yes, in reality, you'd need to have a permit to park a truck on most of the residential streets. The City of Glendale's Public Works Engineering office is giving these temporary parking permits, but you need to know that it's a time-consuming process and you'll need to apply at least 72 hours before move day. So, plan accordingly and order it in advance.

Our company won't use 26-foot trucks when serving the hillside areas like the Verdugos because of the narrow and curvy streets. So, the most obvious choice will be a fully-loaded 18-foot box truck that will seal the deal. If you make a walkthrough around your area and share all the details, it will definitely help us a ton.

Yes, we do this. As you might know, we handle commercial moves on a regular basis, including such prominent high-rise buildings as The Brand in Downtown Glendale. Our crew will be able to arrive during the most suitable window for you. Make sure to order a freight elevator prior to booking a call, so we can get there as soon as possible and assist you.

You've got to know all the bells and whistles of the area to handle an exceptional move. Rossmoyne is the biggest historic district of Glendale, with a majority of its houses built in the 1940s. As we are aware of this, we always plan these moves with extra care. Since we can find a lot of antique pieces of furniture there, we wrap them individually with moving blankets.

Yes. We're licensed by the California Bureau of Household Goods and Services, license number MTR0190206, and BBB-accredited with an A+ rating. Regular cargo insurance is included on every move at no extra charge. For commercial moves, a standard COI with general liability is included; custom additional-insured wording is quoted separately.

    General questions

It's hourly, starting at $99/hr for a two-mover crew, cash, with regular cargo insurance included. The truck fee is billed separately. Double drive time applies and is advised on the moving quote. No fuel surcharge, no hidden fees. We put the hourly rate in writing before you book, so there's nothing to guess at on the day.

A clean 5.0 on Google across more than 2,000 reviews comes down to a few habits: a clear written quote before you book, uniformed and background-checked crews, regular cargo insurance on every job, and no pressure afterward. Plenty of movers chase volume. We'd rather earn the next job by referral, and the reviews are what come out of that.

For a mid-week, mid-month date, a week's notice is usually plenty. Weekends, the end of the month, and the summer stretch from June through August fill up faster, so give it two to three weeks if you can. We don't currently offer same-day moves, so it's worth getting on the calendar early either way.

Life happens. Reach out as early as you can and we'll work with you to find the next open slot that fits. The sooner you let us know, the easier it is to move the crew around.
