An Apartment Move from North Central Avenue to East Doran Street in Glendale

Adept Moving handled a residential move from North Central Avenue over to East Doran Street in Glendale. North Central is one of the city's main arteries, running from Downtown up toward Atwater and Glendale Boulevard. Wide, straight, no tight turns. Our pickup sat in Verdugo Viejo, the dense neighborhood just north of Downtown Glendale.

The street was the easy part. The walkway was not. It was a garden-style complex with a long landscaped path running from the curb, curving past a courtyard and a few palms, all the way to the apartment door.

The client called a week ahead and confirmed curb access. He was moving a small number of items rather than a full apartment. We still put three movers on it, and that walkway is the reason. Roman and Alik were with me.

The job at a glance

  • Pickup: North Central Avenue, Glendale, CA 91202
  • Destination: East Doran Street, Glendale, CA 91206
  • Property Type: Ground-floor unit in a garden-style apartment complex
  • Crew: Three professional movers, for the long walkway to the front door
  • Inventory: Wardrobe cartons of hanging clothes, about fifteen boxes the client had packed ahead of time (a few fragile), a mattress, and a boxed mirror.

Loading on North Central Avenue

The client wanted a morning, so that is when we set the arrival. A legal parking spot was the thing to settle first, and he had it confirmed on the call well ahead. We took an 18-foot box truck out for this one.

All three of us got there at the agreed time and parked where the client had confirmed. Cones out behind the truck, liftgate down.

Inside, each of us had a different job. The client wanted extra floor protection, so the runners went down before anything moved. I took the hall and started on the wardrobe cartons, out on the dolly along a path we had already covered. That walkway from the courtyard to the truck is long, and it is where the time went. The rest of the job was straightforward.

Most of it the client had packed himself, which saved us time on the day.

Wardrobe cartons go as they are, so nothing comes off a hanger.

Back inside, I loaded the fifteen or so boxes onto the dolly, nothing left behind. A few needed their own space, so I treated them as fragile and put them in their own corner of the truck.

Roman went to the bedroom where the client pointed out the boxed mirror. It was already packed, and the only thing that mattered was keeping it that way. Alik and I brought it out and put a moving blanket over the box for good measure. In the truck it stood on its edge against the side wall, clear of anything that could come down flat on it.

Alik carried the mattress, covered in a moving blanket before it left the apartment.

We walked the place once more before driving off, checking everything was loaded.

Delivery to East Doran Street

East Doran Street is close by, a ground-floor apartment on a residential street, and we had a legal spot confirmed there too. The wardrobe cartons and the packed boxes went in first, Alik carrying them to the bedroom with me.

The mattress came in on the second run. The mirror stayed boxed and on its edge in the truck the longest, because we waited on the client to say where it was going. Roman carried it in with me.

The client had expected the walkway and the mirror to be the hard parts of the day. Neither turned out to be.

The Walkway Set the Crew, Not the Load

This was a small inventory. What decided three movers was the distance between the front door and the curb, and the fact that all of it curved. A long carry does not show up on an item list, which is exactly why it is worth mentioning when you book.

Garden-style complexes run the length of Glendale, and long walkways come with them. More on how we work the city is on our Glendale movers page, the wider coverage is under Los Angeles movers, and packing and unpacking is separate if boxes are part of it.
