Move from a Gated Community on Avenue of the Oaks in Santa Clarita
At the beginning of June, we did a move in the Newhall area of Santa Clarita. It was a challenge because the pickup was a gated community. And that's why the client had to handle the access well in advance. Luckily, we could park the 18-foot truck directly on the street, close to the curb, right in front of the 1-story condominium unit.
The job required two movers, so I took Ivan with me.
The Move at a Glance
Pickup: Avenue of the Oaks, Santa Clarita
Destination: Citylights Ct, Canyon Country, Santa Clarita
Property type: A single-story condominium unit
Crew: Two-mover crew
Inventory: 3 wooden floating shelves, vintage wooden dresser, 2 mattresses, 3 armchairs, small outdoor patio table, and 4 lounge chairs.
Avenue of the Oaks, the Pickup
We received a request from the client on Avenue of the Oaks. We agreed to come early in the morning, while the client had to arrange access with the HOA manager ahead of time. When the entry window was set up, we came as agreed.
Since the huge wooden dresser and armchairs were on the list, we covered the front door using one of our moving blankets. It was just a short and well-paved carry from the ramp base to the house entrance. Everything could be easily carried without obstacles.
First, I went to the home office to deal with the floating shelves. The client had wrapped them before we arrived, so I got them to the truck fast.
Then Ivan approached me asking for help with the large vintage wooden dresser. He wrapped it using our moving blankets and covered it with stretch wrap, which was charged extra. I helped Ivan get it onto a dolly.
In the bedroom, the task was to pack two mattresses. I wrapped them in stretch wrap, an extra charge, and combined them into one unit. Then I loaded it on a dolly and moved it to the truck.
Three plush armchairs were next on the list. The client had already wrapped each, so we just carried them out of the house. It took some time before we loaded the armchairs. The back of each armchair was slightly wide, we had to angle them through a tight turn in the hallway.
After that, we headed out to the patio, where the small table and four lounge chairs were waiting their turn. Since the table couldn't be disassembled, I wrapped it in our moving blankets before carrying it to the truck. Meanwhile, Ivan got each lounge chair folded. Together we wrapped each one in our moving blankets. Then I covered them with stretch wrap, billed extra. Finally, the truck was loaded.
Tuscan-style Drop-off in Canyon Country
The drop-off 2-story house sat on a graded slope, with comfortable parking right in front of it.
First, we unloaded the lounge chairs. We carried them to the backyard. We unwrapped them and left them next to the pool. Then Ivan brought the patio table and left it next to the back door, as guided by the client.
It was time to manage the plush armchairs. They all went to the living room. Then we came back to the vehicle for the mattresses. The doorway was wider than that at the pickup, so we easily fit the mattresses. We took them to the bedroom on the second floor.
Finally, the toughest part was the wooden dresser. It was unloaded and moved to the living room. It was unwrapped and left right there. Last came the floating shelves, which Ivan carried to the home library at the client's request. We packed up our gear, said goodbye to the homeowner, and went back to the office.
