An Apartment-to-Townhouse Move from Sherman Way to Victory Boulevard in Van Nuys
Adept Moving has recently handled a residential move from an apartment complex on Sherman Way to a two-story townhouse on Victory Boulevard. Sherman Way is a wide street that runs through the Valley. Victory Boulevard also is a busy major road, so the drive between the two locations was straightforward.
The client called us two weeks before the moving date. He wanted us to move his furniture from an apartment using an elevator he booked. He also warned us that the townhouse-style unit on the other end required us to carry everything inside by hand. Both the pickup and drop-off locations had parking space for our truck. The client asked us to take apart and reassemble the bed frame and the dining table otherwise they would not fit through the doorframes. He also requested us to pack some of his belongings. This move only needed two movers, so I took Alim with me this time.
The move at a glance
Pickup: An apartment complex on Sherman Way, Van Nuys
Destination: A townhouse community on Victory Blvd, Van Nuys
Property type: Apartment complex to a two-story townhouse
After we parked our 18-foot box truck in an off-street parking space and came inside the apartment, the first thing we did was lay down floor runners to protect it from scratches. Since the client had asked us to pack his belongings, we took our packing materials with us: boxes, stretch wrap, packing paper, tape, and bubble wrap. These are materials that are billed separately from our regular hourly rate. But we provide wardrobe cartons and moving blankets for any move. We use those blankets to wrap every piece of furniture before it leaves the property to ensure that it would be transported safely.
I started working in the bedroom, where my task was to take apart the bed frame and pack the mattress in stretch wrap to protect it. Alim was packing chairs and unscrewing legs from the table in the living room. When the heavy furniture was ready, we worked together to take it down to the truck using the elevator. Then we came back to pack the bookshelf, the dresser and 2 nightstands. Alim was carrying them using a hand truck. I packed smaller items into moving boxes and separated fragile plates with bubble wrap, then gathered client's clothes into wardrobe cartons. Lastly, together with Alim, we wrapped the coffee table and the small desk with the desk chair to carry them into the truck safely.
Victory Boulevard Drop-off
The property had a secure gated parking area, so we parked the truck and started unloading. The real challenge was to carry big and heavy items up the stairs to the second floor, where the bedroom was. We worked together with Alim to bring up the queen bed frame, the dresser and the two nightstands. Then Alim lifted the wardrobe cartons upstairs, while I was reassembling the bed. We placed the mattress on the bed. The client asked us to put other furniture like the bookshelf, the coffee table, the small desk with the desk chair and the dining table in the first-floor living room. I reassembled the dining table. Lastly, we divided the remaining moving boxes between the kitchen and other rooms.
The client said that he was pleasantly surprised by the pace of our work. During the final walkthrough he thanked us and confirmed that everything was placed where he wanted it.
