A Full Household Move from a Studio City Complex to Laurel Canyon Boulevard

Adept Moving moved a full household in August out of a unit in a small terraced complex in Studio City, over to a single family house on Laurel Canyon Boulevard. Both ends are Studio City, and neither end was simple.

The pickup had a long shared walkway between the front door and the curb, curving the whole way. The drop-off sat on a canyon road with heavy traffic and no obvious place to put a truck. Two pairs of hands were not going to cover a full household with those two ends, so Daniil and Emil were with me that day.

The job at a glance

  • Pickup: A small terraced complex in Studio City, CA 91604, unit with an exterior stair
  • Destination: Laurel Canyon Boulevard, Studio City, CA 91604
  • Property Type: Multi-unit apartment to single family house
  • Crew: Three professional movers, for the exterior stair and the walkway
  • Inventory: A bed frame, two sofas, three nightstands, a framed mirror, wardrobe cartons of hanging clothes, and a stack of boxes the customer had packed by room.

Loading at the Terraced Complex

Three days out the customer called and asked for a morning. We took the details then and set the window. Curb parking was confirmed as legal on that same call, so on the day we pulled in, set the cones behind the truck, and opened the back.

Walking up to the unit is where the walkway showed itself, narrow and curving from the front door out to the curb. Each of us took a different piece of the job. Floor runners went down before anything moved.

The customer walked me through the bedroom: bed frame, three nightstands, a framed mirror. The frame came apart before it left the unit. The dolly would not take the stair, so that piece needed hands, and Daniil worked it down the stair and out through the walkway with me. We came back for the mirror. It went in a box, padded, and rode on its edge the whole way, kept away from everything else. Nightstands came out on the same trip.

Boxes went out by hand, sorted by the room they were marked for.

Everything else the customer had already packed and stacked in the hall. Emil took the boxes out sorted by room, three or four at a time by hand, then the wardrobe cartons, which go as they are so nothing comes off a hanger. The sofas came last, moving blankets first and shrink wrap over the top of them.

We pulled away once the load was on and the customer had confirmed the unit was clear.

Delivery on Laurel Canyon Boulevard

Laurel Canyon Boulevard is a tight canyon road and it moves, especially at rush hour. We knew parking would be the problem, so we timed the drop-off for the quieter part of the day, put the truck legally near the house, and coned off to keep the driveway clear.

A single family house at this end. The bed frame went in first and was reassembled in the bedroom where the customer wanted it. Emil brought the nightstands and the wardrobe cartons into the same room. The two sofas went into the hall, slowly. The mirror came in on its edge, still padded, right to where it was going.

The boxes went last, room by room as they were marked rather than stacked at the door. The customer was happy with how the load came through.

Three Movers Was the Access Call

A full household is a three mover job on its own, but what settled it here was the exterior stair at one end and a canyon road at the other. Neither of those shows up on an inventory list. Both were known before the truck left the yard, which is the only reason the day ran to time.

Complex pickups like this one are steady work for us across the south Valley. Stairs and walkways are worth a sentence when you book, because they set the crew size. Our Studio City movers page covers the neighborhood, Los Angeles movers covers the rest of it, and boxes are handled on the packing and unpacking page.
