An Apartment Move from Sherman Way to Hayvenhurst Avenue in Van Nuys
Adept Moving handled a residential move from an apartment complex on Sherman Way to another apartment complex on Hayvenhurst Avenue in Van Nuys in July. Sherman Way is a wide and straight street. It is a major main street across the Valley, and easy to drive a truck on. Since our drop-off was Hayvenhurst Avenue, a quiet residential street in West Van Nuys, the drive did not take long.
The only challenging part about this move were the stairs. Our task was to carry everything down from the second floor at the pickup location. Then at Hayvenhurst we carried all the belongings up to the second floor. At both places we turned the sectional and other furniture through narrow turns on the stairs.
The client called us 10 days before the date. She confirmed that we could park at the curb legally at both ends. She requested to take apart and reassemble the bed frame and the desk, since they were too big to fit through doorframes and turns. I decided that this move only needed two movers. I took Alik with me this time.

Sherman Way Pickup
We came in our 18-foot box truck and legally parked at a curb next to the gated two-story complex. The client welcomed us upstairs and showed us what had to be disassembled and moved.
First, we put down floor runners to protect the wooden floor. Alik started in the bedroom: he unbolted the metal queen bed frame and folded down the collapsible bookcase, and then we wrapped both in moving blankets to protect them on the stairs. At the same time, I unscrewed the legs from the oak office desk and sealed the six book boxes the client had packed. We decided to take the book boxes and the bed frame down first to clear the way for the bigger pieces. I was securing the bed frame in the truck and asked Alik to bring the book boxes down.
Then we came back upstairs and together split the sectional sofa into two pieces. We wrapped each one, turned them vertically and carried it through the narrow turn and down the stairs. The client had told us in advance that the coffee table was small enough to fit through the narrow turns in one piece. We wrapped the desk top, its legs and the coffee table and carried them down. Lastly, I loaded the floor lamp and secured it in the truck, and Alik stood the mattress on its edge against the truck wall.
Hayvenhurst Avenue Drop-off
We arrived at an apartment complex on Hayvenhurst Avenue, we legally parked our truck at a curb. Alik had the task to wheel the boxes with books to the entrance using a hand truck and carry them to the second floor. While he was busy with that, I brought the bed frame upstairs. Then we reassembled it in the bedroom. The client also asked us to put the bookcase and the floor lamp in her new bedroom. We placed the mattress on the bed frame.
Then we brought up the sectional the same way it came down: each piece on end, through the turns on the stairs. We put it together in the living room. I screwed the legs back onto the desk. Then Alik and I carried the coffee table up the stairs.
At the end of the move, the client walked through the apartment with us and checked each piece. She was pleasantly surprised by the pace of our work. The client also said that she had been worried that the sectional sofa could get dirty, but it stayed clean, since we wrapped it in moving blankets before leaving the apartment.
