A Single Story House Move from the Studio City Hillside to Arch Drive

Adept Moving handled a residential move in August from the Studio City hillside, a mile or two south of Ventura Boulevard, over to Arch Drive on the flat side of the boulevard. Both ends sit inside Studio City. We knew going in that the pickup was a narrow hillside street with tight turns and very little room to turn a truck around.

On paper it read like an ordinary one bedroom job. The pickup address is what shaped the day. A single story house, no heavy load, so a two mover crew was the right call. Ilya was with me the whole time.

The job at a glance

  • Pickup: A hillside street in Studio City, south of Ventura Boulevard, CA 91604
  • Destination: Arch Drive, Studio City, CA 91604
  • Property Type: Single story house
  • Crew: Two professional movers
  • Inventory: A bed frame that came apart at the start, a wooden dresser, a box spring, a mattress, and a stack of boxes the customer had packed ahead of the day.

Loading on the Studio City Hillside

This was one of those orders where the timetable settled in a heartbeat. The customer wanted a morning slot, and a two mover crew covered it. The one thing we needed answered before the day was parking, and the customer confirmed a private driveway. When we pulled up, the driveway already had cars in it, so the truck went to the curb by the wall instead.

Narrow street, tight turns, so we brought the 18-foot box truck. It is the smallest in our fleet and it is what fits streets like this one. We arrived in the morning, set the cones out behind the truck, and lowered the liftgate.

Liftgate down at the curb. The driveway was already full when we got there.

The wooden dresser came out of the hall first. Moving blankets over it from the start, then shrink wrap on top of the blankets. Then the bedroom. The bed frame came apart before it left the house, and the rails rode flat against the liftgate side of the truck.

Ilya came into that bedroom to help me with the mattress and the box spring. Both went out shrink wrapped, on the dolly, and stood on edge in the truck. The boxes went last. The customer had packed those well ahead of the day, so our crew stayed on furniture.

The bed frame came apart in the house. Everything went out wrapped.

We worked in and out around the customer's two cars, which stayed in the driveway the whole time. It meant staying mobile and taking the corners wide. Before the doors went shut, the customer walked the house with Ilya to confirm nothing had been left behind.

Delivery to Arch Drive

Arch Drive is no distance at all from the pickup, over on the flat side of Ventura Boulevard near the river. After the morning we had, this end was the easy half. Level ground and a legal spot at the curb.

The bed frame went into the bedroom first, exactly where the customer pointed, and got reassembled on the spot. Mattress and box spring after it. The boxes and the wooden dresser came in last and were set down in the hall.

The Street Picked the Truck

A one bedroom load is not what made this job. The hillside street did. Picking the 18-foot truck before the day, and knowing the driveway might not be usable, is what kept a tight pickup from turning into a slow one. The customer said as much about the pace, and about the crew working narrow streets like this.

Hillside pickups south of Ventura Boulevard are routine work for our crews, and the thing we want to hear about on the call is access, at both ends. How we work this neighborhood is on our Studio City movers page. The rest of the coverage sits under Los Angeles movers, and packing and unpacking has its own page.
